An integrated circuit comprises a main bus, one or more integrated processors, an external bus interface, memory, internal bus controller, a signal analyzer, timers, reset/clock generator, radio controller, optional data converters, and optional radio. The signal analyzer performs both time-domain and frequency-domain analysis of the input signal and supplies data to the one or more integrated processors for signal classification.

An approach and apparatus for adaptive scanning for detection and classification of an RF signal. Time-domain and frequency-domain information are acquired and processed over a broad band of frequencies segmented into channels to produce signal features. The signal features are classified using a signal classifier into signal discriminants, from which a signal of interest is located and identified. Subsequent channel scans then place an increased relative or absolute dwell time on the channel believed to contain the signal of interest.

Adaptive channel scanning for detection and classification of RF signals

An approach for selecting communications channels to be used by a communication system includes evaluating for the presence of one or more signals both a particular communications channel currently being used by the communication system and one or more other communications channels. For the particular communications channel currently being used by the communication system, signals that use a different communications protocol than the communication system are evaluated. The approach may include the use of metrics and classification of device types to determine one or more communications channels to be used by the communication system.

Approach for selecting communications channels in communication systems to avoid interference

A wireless communications apparatus that it is useable as a spectrum analyzer and as a wireless receiver. The wireless communications apparatus has a radio circuit that is configured to receive EM radiation. Signal processing logic receives signals from the radio circuit based on the EM radiation. The signal processing logic has a receiver operational mode that processes the signals in accordance with a communication protocol and outputs data encoded in the signals to a host processor. The signal processing logic has a spectrum analyzer operational mode that generates frequency domain data and passes the frequency domain data to the host processor. The frequency domain data describe strength versus frequency of the EM radiation. The host processes the data in accordance with the configuration currently in use. Therefore, the wireless communications apparatus operates as a receiver in one operational mode and as a real-time spectrum analyzer in another operational mode.

A real-time pulse parameter estimator is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an apparatus has pulse detection logic, an abnormal pulse filter, and a pulse parameter estimator. The pulse detection logic is operable to detect pulses and to record an arrival time of each detected pulse. The abnormal pulse filter is operable to analyze the arrival time of the detected pulses and to determine whether there are any abnormal pulses based on the analysis. In one embodiment, the abnormal pulse filter generates an adjusted time difference of arrival (TDOA) signal for a pulse, based on a determination that the pulse is abnormal. The pulse parameter estimator is operable to estimate a pulse parameter for the signal based on an analysis of the arrival times of the detected pulses and information pertaining to there being any abnormal pulses in the signal.

A method and apparatus for measuring and compensating for stray capacitance of a micro-machined sensor of an accelerometer system is disclosed. Stray capacitance differences between a top plate and a sensing element and between a bottom plate and the sensing element degrade accelerometer performance if not compensated for. Measurement of stray capacitance difference is achieved by operating the accelerometer in two calibration phases and measuring the steady-state output voltage in each of the two phases. In calibration phase 1, no force is applied to the sensor during clock intervals 1-4. In calibration phase 2, a dummy force up is applied and then a dummy force down is applied during those intervals 1-4. The difference in the output voltage of the two calibration phases is representative of the difference in stray capacitance of the sensor. Capacitance is added to the top or bottom plates in an amount proportional to the measured stray capacitance. The procedure is repeated until the voltage difference of the two calibration phases is zeroed, which is indicative that the inherent stray capacitance has been zeroed.
