Self-warming rinse out hair care compositions

The invention relates to aqueous hair care compositions including conditioners, shampoos, and mousses. The invention also relates to methods of treating hair, and more particularly to treating hair with aqueous hair care compositions which contain one or more elastomeric resinous materials. These materials when tested at the same concentration that could be incorporated into a product exhibit a G&prime; modulus between 1&times;10 and 1&times; dynes/cm . Furthermore these resins when mixed with a hydrophilic or hydrophobic diluent at a ratio of 1:95 to 95:1% and this mixture then incorporated into an aqueous emulsion in the range of 0.1 to 10% have been demonstrated to deliver a consumer perceptible increase in hair body without sacrificing conditioning attributes.

The present invention is directed to an aqueous hair dressing or hair styling composition which comprises from about 1.5 to about 5.0 weight % polyquaternium 37/propylene glycol dicaprylate dicaprate and ppg-1 trideceth-6, also known as polyquat 37, and also known as Salcare 96. The compositions of the invention have good hair styling and manageability properties without tackiness.

A conditioning shampoo containing an anionic cleansing surfactant, in an amount of about 5% to about 65% by weight, preferably about 5% to about 25% by weight, e.g., an ethoxylated (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfate and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfonate, and a graft copolymer of a polyethylenimine and a silicone polymer in an amount of about 0.1% to about 20% by weight, preferably about 0.1% to about 10% by weight, is disclosed. A method of imparting improved conditioning properties to hair comprising treating the hair with a clear conditioning composition comprising an amidoamine salt, said amidoamine salt comprising an amidoamine compound having the general structural formula: ##STR1## neutralized with a suitable acid, wherein R.sub.1 is a fatty acid chain having about 11 to about 21 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is an alkylene group having two to about four carbon atoms, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or a hydroxyalkylene group having one to about three carbon atoms, R.sub.4 is methyl, ethyl or a hydroxyalkylene group having one to about three carbon atoms, and Y is a heterocyclic nitrogen-containing moiety, like morpholine or pyridine; and a silicone compound having at least one quaternary ammonium moiety.

A conditioning shampoo containing an anionic cleansing surfactant, in an amount of about 5% to about 65% by weight, preferably about 5% to about 25% by weight, e.g., (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfate, and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) partially or fully ethoxylated alkyl sulfate, and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfonate, and a copolymer of polyethyleneimine and a silicone in an amount of about 0.1% to about 20% by weight, preferably about 0.1% to about 10% by weight. The composition, provides excellent foaming, conditioning and stability, without settling of water-insoluble materials.

A conditioning shampoo containing an anionic cleansing surfactant, in an amount of about 5% to about 65% by weight, preferably about 5% to about 25% by weight, e.g., (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfate, and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) partially or fully ethoxylated alkyl sulfate, and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfonate, and a combination of cationic polymers comprising (1) a cationic (protonated) polyethyleneimine in an amount of about 0.1% to about 4% by weight, preferably about 0.1% to about 1% by weight, and (2) a cationic oil-soluble, water-dispersible, cross-linked quaternary acrylate/acrylamide copolymer (Polyquaternium 32), in an amount of about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of the composition, provides excellent foaming, conditioning and stability, without settling of water-insoluble materials due to anionic-cationic complexing. The composition preferably also includes one or more silicone conditioning agents, and has extended product stability, excellent overall conditioning to human hair, particularly superior wet and dry combing properties, and unexpectedly maintains very high levels of foam.

A conditioning shampoo containing an anionic surfactant, in an amount of about 5% to about 25% by weight, and a cationic acrylate/acrylamide copolymer conditioning agent material, in an amount of about 0.1% to about 20% by weight, has extended product stability, excellent overall conditioning to human hair, particularly superior wet and dry combing properties, and unexpectedly maintains very high levels of foam, with a mild anionic cleansing detergent, e.g., an anionic carboxylate detergent, or with lower amounts of a strong anionic cleansing detergent, such as a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) alkyl sulfate, and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) partially or fully ethoxylated alkyl sulfate; and/or a long chain (C.sub.12 -C.sub.22) sulfonate.
