A system includes two or more lifting devices attached to a structure each lifting device having a drum rotated by a motor to draw in or let out a line from the drum. The drum includes a groove formed in an outer surface thereof to accommodate the line. In certain embodiments, each of the lifting devices are quickly and easily detachable from the structure by way of a flange and mounting bracket. The flange and mounting bracket have holes which are coaxially aligned. A pin or other fastener is used to join the flange and mounting bracket together. Two or more lifting devices may be connected to and moved along a mounting bracket.

Multiple motorized lifting devices mounted to a structure

An apparatus includes a motor and a drum rotated by the motor to draw in or let out a line from the drum. The drum includes a groove formed in an outer surface thereof to accommodate the line. In certain embodiments, the motor and drum are quickly and easily detachable from a structure by way of a flange and mounting bracket. In the same or other embodiments, a bearing may provide support for both the transmission and the drum.

An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor and transmission coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. A cable is incorporated into the line to transport at least one of power and data along the line to an object or device at the end of the line. In certain embodiments, the cable is configured to support all or a portion of the load. In other embodiments, the line includes a load-bearing wire separate from the cable which is configured to support all or a portion of the load.

An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor and transmission coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. Logistics electronics are mounted proximate a first end of the drum and power electronics are mounted proximate a second end of the drum. In general, the logistics electronics include lower power electronics that enable data processing as well as data and commands to be communicated to the apparatus from an external location. By contrast, the power electronics may include higher power electronics needed to receive power and drive the motor.

An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor and transmission coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. The transmission includes at least one stage of gearing to reduce a gear ratio of the motor relative to the drum. A shaft couples the motor to the transmission and a locking mechanism selectively locks the shaft to prevent rotation of the drum. In certain embodiments, a braking mechanism may be provided in addition to the locking mechanism to slow the motor when the motor is not applying torque to the drum. This may slow the motor sufficiently to enable engagement of the locking mechanism.

An apparatus includes a drum to draw in or let out a line and a motor coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto. The drum includes a groove formed in an outer surface thereof to accommodate the line. A roller is provided that tracks the groove and extends into the groove. The roller pushes the line into the groove. In certain embodiments, the roller pushes the line to a bottom of the groove to ensure that the line is properly seated therein.

An improved apparatus for viewing agglutination of blood cells in test tubes utilizes magnetic force to hold a magnifying mirror in the desired orientation on the base portion of the viewer. The magnetically held mirror can be adjusted more quickly and easily than mirrors supported by mechanical clamping arrangements, as in previously available agglutination viewers. The improved viewer also includes an illumination source in the form of a lamp head which can be adjusted in position with respect to the base portion and magnifying mirror. In one embodiment, the lamp head is provided with illumination by means of a fiber optic cable enclosed in a flexible gooseneck-type conduit. The fiber optic cable receives light from an incandescent lamp or other light source housed in the base portion of the viewer. In a second embodiment, the lamp head contains an incandescent lamp and can be rotated about two perpendicular axes by means of an articulated structure connected to the base portion of the viewer.

A soundboard apparatus for a stringed musical instrument includes a soundboard having first and second side surfaces, a bridge coupled to the first side surface of the soundboard for securing a plurality of strings to the soundboard, and a plurality of braces coupled to the second side surface of the soundboard. The plurality of braces are configured to intersect at a point located directly below the bridge to strengthen the soundboard adjacent the bridge. In the illustrated embodiment, the plurality of braces are mirror symmetrical about an axis of symmetry extending through the bridge. An adjustable locking apparatus is also provided for securing a neck to a body of a stringed musical instrument. The locking apparatus includes a first track member located on the neck, and a second track member located on the body. The second track member is formed to slidably engage the first track member to align the neck in a selected position relative to the body. The apparatus also includes a fastener for holding the first and second track members in the selected position to secure the neck relative to the body and a fastener to allow tightening of the track members.
