Embodiments of systems, apparatus, and/or methods can provide a damper assembly for transport refrigeration systems. One embodiment can include a damper assembly including a damper door configured to operate in a first position (e.g., closed), a second position (e.g., open), and at least one intermediate position. In one embodiment, a plurality of intermediate positions can be used to controllably vary a capacity of the transport refrigeration unit, or at least one component thereof. Embodiments of systems, apparatus, and/or methods can provide a damper assembly that can be accessed though an ambient portion of transport refrigeration systems or components.

A module for a bus rooftop air conditioner is self contained in that it has all the necessary components including a compressor, if desired, which when supplied with electrical power, can provide conditioned air to the passenger compartment of a bus. In addition, an electrically powered heater is provided in the air flowstream such that heated air can also be supplied to the passenger compartment when desired. Multiple units provide for incremental capacity requirements to be met as well as limp home capabilities.

A system and method for mounting one or more air conditioning modules to the roof of a bus is disclosed. The system and method includes standardized, modular air conditioning modules which are capable of fitting a wide variety of bus geometries, and are attached to the bus roof by a set of rails which are fastened to the roof, the rails having flanges and a length which are tailored to the bus roof configuration so as to provide a standardized alignment by capturing the roof rail in a channel shaped formation.

A rear wall and the fins of a discharge grill are angled with respect to the vertical plane so as to thereby prevent a recirculation of hot discharged air back into the air intake opening.

A bus air conditioning system with at least one air conditioning module installed on a bus roof. The air conditioning system having a pair of supply air openings for conducting the flow of conditioned air downwardly near the outer side of the roof and a return air opening whose position may vary substantially in the lateral direction from a longitudinal central axis of the bus for any given installation. The air conditioning system including a refrigeration circuit for circulating refrigerant serially through a compressor, a condenser coil, an expansion valve and an evaporator coil. The air conditioning system further including an evaporator section including an evaporator blower for causing return air to flow from said return air opening, into a return air compartment of the evaporator section, through the evaporator coil and then to the supply air opening. The air conditioning system further includes a condenser fan for causing outside air to flow over the condenser coil and then to be discharged outside. Where the compressor is a horizontal compressor with a longitudinal axis. The compressor is mounted proximate to the roof of the bus and external to the passenger compartment of the bus and the compressor oriented such that the longitudinal axis of the compressor is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bus.

An air conditioning module is constructed to include all the necessary components for an air conditioning system within a single housing, with the housing having a supply air opening and a return air opening. The various components within the housing are so situated that the return air opening is relatively large in its lateral extension across the roof of a bus such that a single module can accommodate various configurations and locations of the supply air and return air openings in the roof of a bus.

A compact rooftop air conditioning unit for a vehicle, said unit having an evaporator coil located adjacent to a condenser coil. At least one cylindrical blower is mounted adjacent the evaporator coil and is arranged to provide conditioned supply air to the interior of the vehicle. An electric motor is used to turn the shaft of the blower and a condensate pump is secured to the shaft for pumping condensate generated by the evaporator coil back over the condenser coil. An electrically driven compressor is housed within the unit and is arranged so that no refrigerant lines pass outside of the unit. An inverter is also housed within the unit and provides a regulated input to the compressor and the evaporator and condenser drive motors.

The modules may be of a single unit configuration with a single condenser section and a single evaporator section or they may be of a double unit configuration having two condenser sections and two evaporator sections. In a bus rooftop air conditioner having a fresh air inlet for routing fresh air to an evaporator coil by way of a passageway and including a frame located in the passageway for the receiving a filter therein. A hinge mounted grill has a body portion for covering the fresh air inlet, while at the same time having a extended arm coming into contact with the filter to hold it in position. The filter can be removed and replaced by simply rotating the grill member to an open position to thereby disengage the extended arm from the filter and allow it to be removed. The grill member has integrally connected and substantially normally extending guide vanes near its other end which, when the grill is the covering position, extends into a condenser discharge opening to thereby act as diffusers within that opening.
