The present disclosure provides a method () in a network device. The method () includes: transmitting () Downlink Control Information, DCI, to a terminal device, the DCI containing information from which a TBS index is derivable. The BS index is usable to determine a TBS from a set of TBSs including TBSs usable with Quadrature Phase Shift Keying, QPSK, and TBSs usable with 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, 16-QAM. When the DCI is for a Narrowband Physical Downlink Shared Channel, NPDSCH, the TBSs usable with 16-QAM are determinable by the terminal device based on a deployment mode.

Method and arrangement for efficiently utilizing radio resources in a communication network

A method and apparatus for testing point-to-multipoint services and other wireless communication services dependent on unidirectional radio bearers and/or unacknowledged mode operations is described herein. A wireless communication device activates a test module responsive to receiving a test activation message. During a test mode, the test module receives RLC data units from a test system via a unidirectional downlink radio bearer or a control channel. In one embodiment, the test module includes a metric evaluator that determines an error metric based on the received RLC data units. The test module reports the error metric to the test system. In another embodiment, the test module includes a loop-back module that loops-back at least a portion of the received RLC data units to the test system via a unidirectional uplink radio bearer.

In a method for the transmission of data packets (D) from a transmitter (TR) to a receiver (RE) identification of transmitted data packets are stored. Defective data packets (D) are detected by the receiver (RE), status messages (S) which request defective data packets for retransmission are sent from the receiver (RE) to the transmitter (TR) and retransmissions of requested data packets are performed according to the status messages (S). The transmitter (TR) evaluates a first status message (S) with an identification of at least one first requested data packet and retransmits the first data packet. The transmitter (TR) then initializes a timing unit according to the retransmission of the first data packet, wherein the timing unit or a threshold for the timing unit is attributable to the first data packet. When the transmitter evaluates a further status message (S) and detects at least one further data packet that is requested for a retransmission, it selects the further data packet if the timing unit has reached the threshold or if the identification of the further data packet is different from the identification of the first data packets. Only the selected data packets are retransmitted. A transmitter and software programs embodying the invention are also described.

Method and transmitter for an efficient packet data transfer in a transmission protocol with repeat requests

In the present invention, the implementation of a protocol that embeds packets is made sensitive to the type of data being embedded, so that adjustable parameters can be set automatically at the layer providing the parameters being adjusted in accordance with the packets being embedded. Thus it is taken into account that the data in packets being received from a higher layer in order to be encapsulated or segmented and sent further (either directly into the link or on to lower layer), may be classified into different categories with respect to the adjustable parameters, where the parameters can automatically be adjusted for an individual packet in accordance with the category into which is classified.

The present invention relates to a data unit sending means and a method for controlling a data unit sending means, where data units of a first protocol (L_ARQ) embed data units of a second protocol (L) belonging to a higher layer, and said data units of said first protocol (L_ARQ) are held in a send buffer means. A flexible Radio Link Control (RLC) protocol for a mobile communication system is provided, whereby a plurality of different RLC functions are defined. These different RLC functions can be combined in a number of different ways to produce a complete and functional, but more flexible RLC protocol than the existing protocol. For example, a new set of rules are provided for determining how and/or when to poll for, or send, a status report for Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) purposes. As such, for a specific service configuration, one set of the rules can be used, and for a different service configuration, another set of the rules can be used. In this way, the rules can be conformed suitably to the type of service involved.

Flexible radio link control protocol

The invention relates to a method and a device for improving the processing time of received data in packet oriented applications during a transmission via communication networks, in particular via an IP network and a mobile communication network such as the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) or General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). The received data packets of the second protocol layer, for instance, the RLP frames, are combined to form data packets of the first protocol layer, for instance to PPP frames, directly by the receiver in the second protocol layer. The completely and correctly combined data packets are then released to the first protocol layer. During the release of the data packets to the first protocol layer, a difference is made between two modes. The intra-flow mode is a mode, wherein all completely generated data packets are released, i.e. independent from whether the data packets belong to the same or to two different data flows. In contrast thereto, a difference is made in view of the inter-flow mode. In said mode only the completely generated data packets belonging to different data flows are released to the first protocol layer.
