Aircraft electric motors include a rotor comprising a plurality of magnet segments arranged on a frame of the rotor, the rotor defining an internal cavity radially inward from the plurality of magnet segments, an output shaft operably coupled to the rotor, a stator comprising at least one winding wrapped about a support structure, the stator arranged within the internal cavity of the rotor, and a stator support configured to supply at least a current into the at least one winding, wherein the support structure is structurally supported on the stator support. The magnet segments are symmetrically arranged about the stator to balance axial forces applied to the rotor when a current is induced within the at least one winding and maintain a gap between the plurality of magnet segments and the at least one winding.

An electric machine includes a rotor located at and rotatable about a central axis and a stator positioned proximate to the rotor and defining a radial machine gap between the rotor and the stator. A cold plate is positioned proximate to the rotor. The cold plate is rotationally stationary relative to the central axis and is spaced apart from the rotor to define a cold plate gap between the cold plate and the rotor. The cold plate includes one or more coolant pathways therein such that thermal energy from the rotor is transferred to a flow of coolant circulated through the one or more coolant pathways.

A proposed design is generated from the deep neural network for an electrical machine based on the goal(s) and design constraint(s). A plurality of the weights are adjusted based on a reward that rates at least one aspect of the proposed design. The proposed design is modified using the deep neural network after the weight adjustment. The adjusting and modifying are iteratively repeated to generate subsequent iterations of the proposed design, each subsequent iteration based on the reward from a preceding iteration. A system for designing electrical machines is also disclosed.
