An apparatus and method () for capacitive measurement of electrophysiological signals () suppresses or reduces motion artifacts by providing a feedback mechanism. An average voltage between a capacitive sensor electrode () and the body () is controlled so as to reduce or minimize motion-induced signals.

Electro-physiological measurement with reduced motion artifacts

A system () generates patient alarms using a stepped alarm scheme. The system () includes one or more processors () programmed to receive physiological scores and/or physiological parameter values; compare the physiological scores and/or the physiological parameter values to a plurality of alarm levels; in response to a physiological score and/or physiological parameter value falling within an uninhibited zone of the alarm levels, issue an alarm; and set a first inhibition period for the uninhibited alarm level after issuing the alarm.

Stepped alarm method for patient monitors

The invention relates to a capacitive sensing apparatus for sensing an object, wherein the capacitive sensing apparatus comprises a capacitive sensor () for capacitively sensing the object () and an enclosure () for enclosing the capacitive sensor (). The enclosure () comprises a contact side () for contacting the object () during sensing, wherein the enclosure () and the capacitive sensor () are adapted for sensing the object () by the capacitive sensor () through the contact side () of the enclosure (). The enclosure () and the capacitive sensor () are separable from each other for using the capacitive sensor () as a reusable device and for using the enclosure () as a disposable device. This allows capacitively sensing an object with a new, uncontaminated enclosure () and a reused capacitive sensor () and, thus, under improved hygienic conditions.

Capacitive sensing apparatus

A capacitive sensing system () which includes an electrical charge providing unit () like an electret foil for providing a permanent electrical charge at a sensing site () of the object () and a capacitive sensor () including a sensing electrode () for generating a sensing signal by capacitively sensing the object () at the sensing site () of the object (). By providing a permanent electrical charge at the sensing site () of the object (), the bias between the object () and the sensing electrode () of the capacitive sensor () is intentionally preferentially made large, thereby increasing the sensitivity towards mechanical motions. The resulting sensing signal substantially caused by these mechanical motions between the object () and the sensing electrode () is generally larger than a signal generated substantially by an electrophysiological field.

Capacitive sensing system

A method for automatically monitoring consciousness of a person and triggering an alarm if the monitored person is not in a state of full consciousness is provided. The method comprises the steps: monitoring at least one aspect of the behavior of the person (S); analyzing whether the monitored behavior of the person corresponds to an expected behavior for a state of full consciousness or not (S, S'); triggering an alarm if the analysis results in that the detected behavior does not correspond to the expected behavior (S).
