In a communication system, an access point in communication with one or more stations identifies a first subset of wireless stations from the set of wireless stations. The first subset of wireless stations is identified based on RSSI values for radio frequency signals received from each of the stations exceeding an RSSI threshold. The first subset of wireless stations is assigned to a first reception window. The access point transmits an identifier of each of the subset of wireless stations and an identifier of the reception window via the radio frequency channel.

Apparatus and method for reducing interference in a wireless communication system

In a communication system, an access point in communication with one or more stations is configured to shift the start of transmission of its downlink data. The access point may automatically shift the transmission of the downlink data in response to receiving downlink data transmitted by a neighboring access point. Shifting the start of transmission of its downlink data permits stations to correctly synchronize to the downlink data. The transmission of data may be synchronized to a synchronization event. In some instances, the access point updates its downlink data with a value corresponding to the shift. The access point may not shift the transmission of the downlink data if the signal strength of the received downlink data is below a threshold.

Mechanism for wireless communication

In a wireless communication network, to reduce the polling overhead it is proposed to poll several stations using the same polling frame. In order to be able to poll more than one station in the same frame, an access point can make use of the locations of stations relative to the access point. The location of each station relative to the access point will cause a different propagation delay for radio communications between the station and the access point. Based on the propagation delays, two or more stations may be grouped together for subsequent transmissions to the access point.
