A system, method and computer program product for group consumption of video content streamed through video conferencing systems is proposed, leveraging existing video conferencing and cloud playout systems to build a unique group watching video capability that is scalable and easy to set up for end-consumers.

Video playout integrated with video conferencing for a group-watch video system

For broadcast-grade service level guarantees for linear video Playout, it is important for Playout systems and the associated server hardware to be extremely reliable. To accomplish this both the Playout software and server hardware are tightly integrated in on-premise implementations. Playout systems on the cloud allow for leveraging cloud servers dynamically for running Playout systems. The present invention proposes a system and method redundant, cost-effective for time-advanced, server-independent cloud Playout, which is useful in a variety of scenarios including but not limited to accomplishing seamless redundancy, optimizing operating costs by choosing different service provider/regions/servers. This is achieved by pre-playing the channel ahead of schedule, and then passing it to the output through an intelligent delay buffer. By switching Playout across multiple servers by instantiating new Playout software on another cloud server without impacting the linear output feed streamed out of the delay buffer we accomplish a server independent Playout system.

A system, method and apparatus to enable addressable advertising content delivery in which multiple addressable content streams are sent in a transport multiplex, Addressable Content Channel Multiplex, different from the Primary Channel Multiplex on which the Primary Channel is delivered. The Primary Channel is network stream onto which the addressable content is to be inserted. Seamless switch between the Primary Channel and the addressable content streams on the Addressable Content Channel Multiplex is accomplished by using Receiver stored content as interim buffers to which the switching happens prior to switching to a different transport multiplex. These buffers feed the audio and video decoders with content, during the time it takes for the tuner to switch to a different transport multiplex. Pre-roll and Post-roll content buffers are used during switching, one from Primary Channel Multiplex to Addressable Content Channel Multiplex and from Addressable Content Channel Multiplex to Primary Channel Multiplex.

A system and method to extract audio-video fingerprint and embed an audio-video watermark onto a content asset that is transmitted as part of network content. The specific content to be replaced and the point of local content insertion are identified uniquely by looking for the embedded audio-video watermark and match the audio-video fingerprint. The identified point of insertion enables seamless local content insertion.
