A cellular structure includes a plurality of interconnected cells of fabric material. The cells are at least partially filled with a composite fill material that includes a particulate material and a bonding agent. A cellular unit made up of a plurality of the interconnected cells may have an associated load-bearing frame to enable lifting and/or transportation of the structure. The fill material is preferably resilient.

A confinement structure comprises one or more open cells () for confinement, in use, of particulate fill materials such as soil, sand or aggregate. The cells () comprise walls () formed of a composite material comprising a polymeric grid layer laminated to a fabric layer. The walls () may be formed from a strip of the composite material comprising one or more living hinges. The cells () may be provided with skirt portions () that extend from at least some of the walls ().

Confinement structures

A cellular confinement system for soil, sand or other filler material comprises a number of sub-assemblies each made up of a plurality of interconnected open cells of fabric material. The sub-assemblies are stackable one on top of the other to provide a structure having at least one generally vertical side or end wall. Each sub-assembly comprises a skirt portion which is arranged to overlap between vertically juxtaposed sub-assemblies in use. The skirt portion substantially prevents or minimizes the escape of finer aggregate material from between the stacked sub-assemblies.

A cellular confinement system for soil, sand or other filler material comprises a number of sub-assemblies each made up of a plurality of interconnected open cells of fabric material. The sub-assemblies are stackable one on top of the other to provide a structure having at least one generally vertical side or end wall. The system further comprises sealing means such as one or more skirt portion(s) which are arranged between vertically juxtaposed sub-assemblies in use. The skirt portions substantially prevent or minimize the escape of finer aggregate material from between the stacked sub-assemblies.
