To improve the efficiency and reliability of communication in a large and high-density wireless network, it is beneficial to assign a subset of the plurality of nodesbeing router nodes, and the rest of the nodes being non-router nodes. Thus, the dense wireless networksplits into a sparse core mesh network and many small star networks around each router node. However, to commission the plurality of nodes into such a hybrid topology can be quite complex and time-consuming. This invention discloses a commissioning method that makes use of one or more neighboring relationship established among the plurality of nodes to derive a proper role for an individual node, and then to configure the individual node to operate according to the role assigned. The disclosed commissioning method may be carried out semi-automatically or automatically.

Efficient commissioning of a wireless control system

A method of controlling a first lighting unit of a group of lighting units is disclosed. The method comprised receiving a first signal communicated between a portable device and the first lighting unit, determining a first signal strength of the received first signal, setting, if the first signal strength exceeds a threshold, the portable device to a first control mode wherein only the first lighting unit of the group of lighting units is controlled by the portable device, and setting, if the first signal strength does not exceed the threshold, the portable device to a second control mode wherein the lighting units of the group are controlled by the portable device.

Controller for controlling a lighting device

The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for controlling commissioning of a network device () in a multi-hop network, e.g., ZigBee network, () of a multi-hop technology, wherein the network device () is a combo network device with a single-hop communication unit of a single-hop technology, e.g., Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), for establishing a point-to-point connection and a multi-hop communication unit of the multi-hop technology for communicating with other network devices () of the multi-hop network in the multi-hop network (). The single-hop connection of the network device () for commissioning allows seamless transfer from controlling the network device () via the single-hop network to controlling the network device () via the multi-hop network via a bridge device (), without running the risk of unnecessarily looking for open networks, having to look up and enter an access key or bringing the network device () close to the bridge device (), and whilst maintaining a secure setup.

Commissioning in multi-hop networks by using a single-hop connection

A lighting device comprises an array of controllable light emitting pixels, each pixel having an adjustable light output colour. A controller is configured to receive a limited set of light output colours and to locally process these light output colours to form a colour gradient pattern to be displayed across pixels of the array.

Controlling a lighting system

A method of controlling a luminaire at a first physical location in a physical space to render a lighting effect in the physical space, the method being performed by a control device and comprising steps of: receiving at least one data object for use in rendering the lighting effect, the data object defining at least one virtual object comprising an influence value for the virtual object and a coordinate vector denoting a virtual location of the virtual object in a virtual space; determining the first physical location of the luminaire in the physical space from a map of the physical space; determining a separation between the first physical location of the luminaire and a second physical location in the physical space corresponding to the virtual location of the virtual object in the virtual space; and controlling at least one characteristic of light emitted by the luminaire as a function of the determined separation and the influence value for the virtual object, thereby rendering the lighting effect.

Lighting control

A lighting system () for controlling an LED array () is disclosed. The lighting system () comprises the LED array () comprising a plurality of individually addressable light sources L-Leach having an individual address, a processor () configured to divide the plurality of individually addressable light sources L-Linto a plurality of segments () of light sources by assigning segment addresses to the segments () of light sources, wherein each segment comprises a unique set of one or more light sources, wherein the LED array () further comprises a receiver () configured to receive a plurality of lighting control signals via a network (), wherein each lighting control signal is addressed to one of the segment addresses, and wherein the LED array () further comprises a controller () configured to control at least one of the individually addressable light sources of each segment according to the lighting control signal addressed to the respective segment.

Lighting system for controlling an LED array

When a light scene comprises multiple colors of light, not all white light is suitable for matching the scene. A method is provided such that a white point is determined for each color in a set of colors, to create a set of white points. A single white point is then determined based on the set of white points. This allows, for example, a user to select a light scene (e.g. a romantic scene featuring red colors) for a living room, such that lighting devices contributing to the scene emit colored light. A functional lighting device (e.g. reading light) can then emit white light, determined according to the method, to provide more functional light (e.g. light suitable for reading) that matches the scene (e.g. warm white instead of cold white).

Deriving a white-point for use in a multi-color light scene

An illumination source comprises an array of light-emitting elements for emitting illumination to illuminate an environment. A controller is arranged to control the illumination emitted by different ones of the light-emitting elements so as to form a spatial pattern, and to vary the spatial pattern according to a spatial dimming function whereby the spatial pattern is varied so as to emit a different overall intensity level as a function of a received dimming signal. A value is determined of at least one property relating to a manner in which the illumination source is deployed (e.g. the manner in which it is installed), and the spatial dimming function is set in dependence on the value of this property.

Spatial dimming

A method is provided for controlling one or more lighting devices to generate a dynamic light effect based on an image. A first area in the image is selected based on first selection criteria (e.g. object recognition). Within this first area, a sequence of sub-areas () are selected based on second selection criteria (e.g. zooming in to a recognized object). Color values are extracted from each sub-area and the one or more lighting devices are controlled based on the extracted color values.

Dynamic light effect based on an image

A method of creating a lighting scene, the method comprising: receiving a still or moving input image; identifying one or more image segments within the input image (S), including determining a shape of each of the one or more image segments (S); determining a respective color and/or brightness level of each of the one or more identified image segments; determining a shape associated with each of a one or more luminaires present within the environment; matching the shape of each of the one or more identified image segments to the shape associated with a respective one of said luminaires or a respective group of the luminaires (S); and for each respective of the one or more identified image segments, controlling the respective luminaire or group of luminaires to emit light with a color selected based on the color of the respective image segment and/or with a brightness level selected based on the brightness level of the respective image segment (S).

Generating a lighting scene

A method implemented by a communication device for controlling light emitted from a linear lighting device comprising a plurality of linearly distributed controllable light sources, the method comprising: displaying an image on a display of the communication device; receiving an input indicating an area of the image; analyzing the image area to derive a sequence of colors; generating a control signal based on the derived 5 sequence of colors; and transmitting the control signal to the linear lighting device to control the plurality of controllable light sources to emit light in accordance with the derived sequence of colors.
