The present disclosure relates to a surgical navigation system for the alignment of a surgical instrument and methods for its use, wherein the surgical navigation system may comprise a head-mounted display comprising a lens. The surgical navigation system may further comprise tracking unit, herein the tracking unit may be configured to track a patient tracker and/or a surgical instrument. Patient data may be registered to the patient tracker. The surgical instrument may define an instrument axis. The surgical navigation system may be configured to plan one or more trajectories based on the patient data. The head-mounted display may be configured to display augmented reality visualization, including an augmented reality position alignment visualization and/or an augmented reality angular alignment visualization related to the surgical instrument on the lens of the head-mounted display.

Surgical navigation system and method

A method of guiding a surgical instrument during sinus surgery on a patient including receiving pre-operative patient data marked with a plurality of points defining a drainage pathway and determining a position of the surgical instrument relative to the planned drainage pathway. The method may further comprise generating an augmented reality image including a first visualization element representing the drainage pathway and a second visualization element comprising a plurality of circles spaced along the planned drainage pathway, and displaying the augmented reality image to help guide the surgical instrument. The method may also comprise generating an augmented reality image including a first visualization element representing the drainage pathway and a second visualization element representing the determined position of the surgical instrument relative to the drainage pathway.

Instrument guidance system for sinus surgery

A method and a device for displaying an object, in particular biological tissue. The method has the following steps: a) generating a first image of at least one sub-region of the object using a first device; b) generating a second image of at least one sub-region of the object using a second device; c) ascertaining first coordinates of at least some image points of the second image in a first coordinate system; d) ascertaining second coordinates of the image points of the second image by projecting the first coordinates in a second coordinate system which is different from the first coordinate system and which is assigned to the first device; and e) generating a combined image of the object from the first and the second image using the ascertained second coordinates of the image points of the second image.

Method for displaying an object

A method for generating an augmented reality image for supporting the adjustment of the position of a surgical instrument during sinus surgery comprising the steps of: selecting at least one of sinus cells, cavities and orifices of the sinus in a pre-operative image by marking them with at least one geometric primitive or tube shaped object; using real-time intra-operative imaging for displaying the operating field; determining the relative positions at least between the real-time imaging of the patient and the pre-operative image data; computing a virtual image corresponding to a real-time image comprising at least one marked geometric primitive or tube shaped object based on the determined relative positions; combining the virtual image and the real-time intraoperative image for visualization in an augmented reality image.

An adapter for receiving a medical technical device and a position detecting system, wherein the adapter may comprise a first holding element, a second holding element, a spring exerting a restoring force on the second holding element, and a fixing element for fixing the position detecting system. The second holding element may be supported by the first holding element such that it can move and can be moved in a direction counter to the restoring force of the spring placing the adapter in a receiving state allowing the medical technical device to be inserted into the adapter. In the absence of the force acting counter to the restoring force of the spring, the spring may move the second holding element in the direction of the restoring force, placing the adapter in a clamping state and securing the adapter to the medical technical device.

Adapter for receiving a medical technical device and a position detecting system

The present invention relates to a method for the segmentation and visualization of cell envelopes. A method is provided for the segmentation and visualization of cavities or orifices of the human body, comprising the steps of manual pre-segmentation of cells by defining enclosing geometric primitives in a 3D patient image for generating initial cell envelopes; analysing the cell anatomy within pre-segmented geometric primitives; using the result of the analysis for adjustment of the cell envelope and visualising the cell envelopes.

Method for cell envelope segmentation and visualisation

The invention related to a method and a device for displaying an object, in particular biological tissue. Method and device for displaying an object

A method for calibrating a distance determining device for determining a distance between an optical system and an object. The method includes providing a detecting system having marking elements and a measuring camera. Using the distance determining device, a light structure is projected onto a carrier that provides a calibration pattern. The measuring camera detects the marking elements or the calibration pattern to determine the spatial position of the optical system. Coordinates of a calibration pattern in a coordinate system associated with the measuring camera are determined. An image of the calibration pattern and the light structure is created using a camera of the optical system. Coordinates of an image of a calibration pattern and the light structure in a coordinate system associated with the camera image plane are determined. The distance determining device is calibrated using the determined coordinates and the determined spatial position of the optical system.
