A technique utilizes a Y-block which is coupled with a lateral tubing string and a main tubing string. The Y-block comprises features which facilitate service and/or production operations. In well applications, the Y-block may comprise a pressure housing and a recessed bypass slot disposed along an exterior of the Y-block. A control line is positioned in the recessed bypass slot to facilitate control functions along the lateral tubing string. The recessed bypass slot enables routing of a control line without forming a splice along the control line. In other applications, the Y-block may utilize additional or other features which facilitate the desired operations.

Multilateral Y-block system

A lateral wellbore completion apparatus may include a flow-through deflector having a deflector face and a junction string that includes a junction block cooperative to mate with the deflector face, a downhole device, and an inductive coupler electrically connected to the downhole device. A method may include anchoring the deflector in a main bore, making-up at the drilling surface a junction string that includes a junction block, a completion string section having a downhole device, and a secondary inductive coupler electrically connected to the downhole device, running the junction string into the main bore, deflecting the completion string section into the lateral bore, and landing the junction block on the deflector face thereby communicatively coupling the secondary and primary inductive couplers.

Lateral wellbore completion apparatus and method

A diverting system includes, a first tubular, a second tubular receptive to the first tubular having at least one lateral extending therefrom, the first tubular is runnable into the second tubular as well as into the at least one lateral, an engaging device in operable communication with both the first tubular and the second tubular, and a diverting tool in operable communication with the engaging device configured to selectively divert the first tubular into the at least one lateral.

Diverting system

A location and orientation assembly suitable for use in a multi-lateral wellbore may include a coupling portion, an upper muleshoe, a muleshoe spacer and a bottom muleshoe. The bottom muleshoe may connect to the coupling portion through a threaded connection. A method for locating and orienting in a multi-lateral wellbore includes providing a locating and orientation assembly. In the orientation assembly a coupling portion is provided and an upper muleshoe is inserted into the coupling portion. A muleshoe spacer is inserted into the coupling portion so as to matingly contact the upper muleshoe portion. Part of a bottom muleshoe is inserted into the coupling portion so as to matingly contact the muleshoe spacer. The coupling portion is jointed to the bottom muleshoe by a threaded connection.

Multilateral location and orientation assembly

An apparatus that is usable with a well includes an assembly, which includes a whipstock and a lateral deflector that are adapted to be run downhole into a first wellbore of the well as a unit. The whipstock is adapted to guide at least a drilling string to form a second wellbore, and the lateral deflector is adapted to guide a liner during installation of the liner into the second wellbore.

Assembly and technique for completing a multilateral well

A method of running a first tubular within a second tubular includes running the first tubular into the second tubular past at least one lateral extending from the second tubular, running a diverting tool at the first tubular with the running of the first tubular, withdrawing the first tubular from the second tubular until an end of the first tubular is beyond a junction between the at least one lateral and the second tubular and, running the first tubular into the at least one lateral.

Diverting system and method of running a tubular

A system for production of petroleum from an earth formation. The system includes: an injection assembly disposable within a first borehole for injecting a thermal source into the formation, the injection assembly including an injector extending from a distal end of the assembly; and a production assembly disposal within a second borehole for recovering material including the petroleum from the formation, the production assembly including a collector extending from a distal end of the assembly. At least one of the injector and the collector includes at least a first conduit and at least a second conduit concentric with the first conduit, the first conduit having a first distal end and the second conduit having a second distal end, the first and second distal ends located at different locations along a length of at least one of the first and second borehole.

Systems, methods and apparatuses for monitoring and recovery of petroleum from earth formations

A stand-alone frac liner that allows for fracturing of multiple lateral legs of a multilateral well on a single call out and rig-up of fracturing equipment. Tools and techniques are provided that include setting multiple stand-alone frac liners in multiple lateral legs of the multilateral well. The liners may rest in the legs physically untethered to surface equipment. Thus, a single call out of a frac string tubular and associated equipment may be used to frac the lateral legs in sequence from one leg to the next. This may be achieved without the requirement of removal of the tubular from the well or disconnect of surface fracturing equipment between the lateral fracture applications. Thus, a considerable amount of expenses associated with time and manpower may be saved.

Structurally stand-alone FRAC liner system and method of use thereof

An apparatus for monitoring a location of a borehole for production of petroleum from an earth formation is provided. The apparatus includes: a detection source disposable within a detection source conduit, the detection source including an elongated electrically conductive member extendable along at least a portion of the detection source conduit; and an electrosensitive material disposed in at least one portion of the elongated member, the electrosensitive material reactive to an electric current to change a shape of the electrosensitive material, the electrosensitive material configured to change shape in response to the electric current to form an electromagnet at the portion. A system and method for monitoring a location of a borehole for production of petroleum from an earth formation are also provided.

A system for monitoring a location of a borehole for production of petroleum from an earth formation is provided. The system includes: an assembly including at least one of an injection conduit for injecting a thermal source into the formation and a production conduit for recovering material including the petroleum from the formation; a guide conduit attached to at least a portion of the at least one of the injection conduit and the production conduit, the guide conduit extending in a direction at least substantially parallel to the at least one of the injection conduit and the production conduit; and a detection source conduit insertable through the guide conduit and configured to dispose therein a detection source for detecting a location of the assembly in the formation. A method of monitoring a location of a borehole for production of petroleum from an earth formation is also provided.

A system for production of petroleum from an earth formation includes: an injection assembly disposable within a first borehole for injecting a first thermal source into the formation, the injection assembly including an injector extending from a distal end of the assembly; a production assembly disposable within a second borehole for recovering the petroleum from the formation, the production assembly including a production conduit and a collector extending from the distal end of the assembly; and a thermal injection conduit extending through at least a portion of the production conduit and the collector for regulating a thermal property of the petroleum.

A system for production of petroleum from an earth formation is provided. The system includes: at least one injection borehole for injecting a thermal source into the formation; at least one production borehole for recovering material including the petroleum from the formation; and at least one drainage borehole intersecting a portion of the at least one production borehole. Methods of recovering petroleum from an earth formation and creating a petroleum production system are also provided.
