A display panel () and a method for manufacturing a display panel () that includes a front side and a back side, the display panel () including a substrate having a plurality of electrical components provided on a front side of the substrate and integrated circuits connected to the plurality of electrical components, the integrated circuits being embedded in the substrate. A plurality of edge contacts () is also provided along edges of the substrate, where the plurality of edge contacts () is electrically connected with the integrated circuits. An electrically conductive layer () covers at least a part of the front side of the substrate and surrounds the plurality of electrical components, where the electrically conductive layer () does not physically contact the embedded integrated circuits and provides EMI shielding to different components of the display panel ().

System and method for display panel

A device for elastic pivoting about two orthogonal axes as well a method of manufacturing thereof using additive manufacturing processes. The device can be used in a projector, such as a back projector, a scanner such as a laser scanner, or other forms of displays, or a telescope etc. The device includes an inner frame and an outer frame. First and second flexible spring elements extend out of the plane in which the inner frame lies and third and fourth flexible spring elements extend out of the plane in which the outer frame lies.

A display panel and a method for manufacturing a display panel that includes a front side and a back side, the display panel including a substrate having a plurality of electrical components provided on a front side of the substrate and integrated circuits connected to the plurality of electrical components, the integrated circuits being embedded in the substrate. A plurality of edge contacts is also provided along edges of the substrate, where the plurality of edge contacts is electrically connected with the integrated circuits. An electrically conductive layer covers at least a part of the front side of the substrate and surrounds the plurality of electrical components, where the electrically conductive layer does not physically contact the embedded integrated circuits and provides electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding to different components of the display panel.

A reflective display device and a method of making or operating the display device, where the reflective display device includes a spatial reflective light valve, at least one light emitting element being positioned in front of the spatial reflective light valve and light shaping device to direct the light generated by the at least one light emitting element in defined directions with respect to the spatial reflective light valve. This makes use of the fact that the contrast improves and the diffuse reflection component of the reflective display increases when the illumination direction gets closer to the perpendicular direction but rays close to the perpendicular direction need to be reduced in intensity or better still avoided to reduce the specular component. This can use illumination directions close to the perpendicular direction while preventing or reducing specular reflection within a range of incident angles.

Front-lit reflective display

A laser diode grid element comprising laser diodes arranged along a corresponding substantially flat surface; and a collimator for each laser diode for generating collimated light beams substantially perpendicular on the respective substantially flat surface. The laser diodes are comprised in standard packages including a base plate serving as cooling surface of the laser diode, a metal housing arranged on the base plate to protect the laser diode, and at least two driving pins which extend from the laser diode through the base plate and which are used for driving the laser diode within the package. The laser diode grid element includes a heat sink arranged in contact with the base plates, and the at least two driving pins of each laser diode extend at least partially through the heat sink. Also provided are light emitting systems comprising such grid elements, and an optical component for use in such system.

Light emitting systems

An optical design is described to be used in a color projection system. The system comprises a white light source (), a light splitting means to split the white beam into color subbeams, optical components to direct each color subbeam on a light modulating means () and a dichroic prism (). The light splitting means and the optical components are arranged such that each of the images of the color subbeams imaged on the light modulating means () has equal size and orientation, i.e. such that the magnification of the color subimage on the light modulating means () is equal. This is obtained by providing equal light paths for each color subbeam or by providing optical components such that either all different color images on the screen are inverted or none of the different color images are inverted.

Optical arrangement for non-inverting illumination system

An improved adjustable convergence device for adjusting the position of a pixel light modulator of a projector comprising at least two such light modulators mounted on the frame of the projector, said convergence device comprising a plate assembly which is fixed on said supporting frame and which supports the light modulator to be adjusted, wherein said plate assembly is composed of at least two plate elements, respectively a plate element which is fixed to the supporting frame and a plate element on which the light modulator is fixed, whereby these plate elements are connected to each other by means of at least one elastic joint and whereby at least first self-locking adjusting means are provided for transmitting a force in an adjusting direction between these plate elements in order to adjust the relative position between said plate elements.

Adjustable convergence device for a projector and projector equipped with such a convergence device

A convergence systemcomprises a dichroic prismfor splitting and/or recombining light beams, intermediate partsand a light modulatorfor every color beam. The intermediate partsare constructed such that the convergence system has an improved resistance for variations in environmental effects like temperature and humidity. The intermediate partsare constructed such that the convergence system has a high stability, a large degree of monolithicy and a high movement isotropy. When used in a projection display system, the projection display system has a high degree of color uniformity.

Convergence system for a projection display system

A projector is provided which can handle high light intensities without dust or foreign matter penetrating the inside of the apparatus and thus deteriorating the quality of the image projected. The projector apparatus comprises a spatial light modulator (SLM) unit provided with a plurality of reflective SLMs and a prismatic light splitting/combining unit. The SLM unit is enclosed in a substantially sealed chamber. A heat path for cooling each SLM is provided, whereby the heat path connection is through the wall of the substantially sealed chamber. In this way, heat energy from the main heat source inside the sealed chamber is brought outside the sealed chamber for dissipation.

Projector with sealed inner compartment

The present invention relates to a light valve image projector with a disposition for improving the contrast of an optical image projected on a screen by that projector. The projector comprises at least one illumination system, at least one field lens, at least one set consisting of a polarizer, an LCD and an analyzer and at least a projection lens, and presents at least one optical axis which includes an angle &agr; with the optical axis of the projection lenses. The invention consists in positioning the analyzer so that it includes an angle larger than &agr; with the LCD, at least for the light rays that pass through the contrast limited area of the LCD. The invention consists furthermore in placing the polarizer so that it includes an angle larger than &agr; with the LCD. Both the analyzer and/or the polarizer may have a flat or a curved surface.
