A coiled tubing connection system is used in a well. A connector having an engagement end is used to couple a wellbore device to the end of a coiled tubing. The connector is spoolable, and the engagement end comprises engagement features that facilitate formation of a connection that is dependable and less susceptible to separation.

System and method for forming a coiled tubing connection

Fluid diversion measurement systems and methods are described. One system includes a section of tubular having a main flow passage and a fluid diversion port, the section of tubular adapted to be either moving or stationary during a fluid diversion operation, at least two sensors in the section of tubular, at least one sensor located upstream of the fluid diversion port and at least one sensor located downstream of the fluid diversion port, each sensor adapted to measure a parameter of a fluid diverted into a wellbore through the fluid diversion port; and means for using the measured parameters in realtime to monitor, control, or both monitor and control diversion of the fluid. Fluid diversion measurement methods and systems

Products and methods relating to composite materials and their use in coiled tubing is disclosed. The composite tubing is a pressurized means of conveying fluids downhole in a wellbore. It includes a multilayered laminate that resists buckling within the wellbore and is fabricated into a hollow tube. The fibers are oriented in angular relationship to the longitudinal direction of the coiled tubing such as to provide appropriate strength and buckling characteristics to the coiled tubing. Further, the coiled tubing layered laminate may transmit signals representing data from downhole to the surface. In some embodiments, a composite disconnecting device which includes a blend of fibers of different types or orientations is shown. The disconnecting device shows a failure load range corresponding to the failure characteristics of the fiber blend, the fiber blend having a predetermined failure limit.

A straddle inflatable packer system includes upper and lower packer assemblies each having an inner elastomer sleeve surrounded by expansible armor members. For well treating operations, the upper packer includes an external elastomer sleeve which covers a lower portion of its armor members, and the lower packer has an external elastomer sleeve that covers an upper portion of its armor members, so that the external sleeves are located adjacent to the higher pressures of injected fluids. For well testing operations, the locations of the external packer sleeves are reversed so that again these sleeves are adjacent the higher well bore pressures during the test.

Straddle inflatable packer system

A tubing release coupling which does not require rotation to effect release incorporates a collet which is retained within a groove by a collet retainer located on an axially movable piston. The piston is retained in place thereby locking the collet by a detent cantilever spring. Pressure differential between the tubing the annulus forces axial movement of the piston against the spring force of the cantilever spring effecting release of the collet. The spring force of the detent cantilever spring may be adjusted by positioning spring adjusters at a variable distance.

Hydraulic release joint for tubing systems

An electrically conductive cable is held within the inner bore of a well tool connected to coiled tubing by a clamp which comprises a split ring having radially outwardly extending lug portions on the split ends of the ring. The lug portions are located within a longitudinally upward slot of a sleeve located within the inner bore of the well tool. Upon application of tensional force to the cable, the lugs of the split ring clamp are drawn into the taper thereby compressing the split ring in tighter engagement with the outer surface of the cable.

A grapple connection for interconnecting coiled tubing with a well tool comprises first and second tapered split rings and a double-tapered intermediate split ring enclosed in a cylindrical, threaded housing. When the housing is rotated with threaded engagement of the housing to a compression ring and the well tool, the well tool and the compression ring bear against the split rings causing the tapered surfaces to press the grapples inwardly and the intermediate ring outwardly to effect a tight interconnection between the coiled tubing and the well too.
