A coin testing apparatus having a cradle pivotally mounted on a frame about a pivot axis, the cradle including an arm at one side of the pivot axis. A shoulder is fixed to the frame and is spaced from the cradle arm for carrying a true value coin on and between the cradle arm and shoulder when the cradle arm is in an initial position. The shoulder is spaced from the cradle arm for passing the true value coin between the cradle arm and shoulder and to the coin passageway when the cradle is moved to a delivery position. A counterweight is adjustably mounted on the cradle at the other side of the pivot axis for varying the location of the counterweight selectively from the pivot axis to counterbalance the weight of the true value coin so that the true value coin will be moved by the cradle from the initial position to the delivery position at a predetermined momentum, but a coin of different weight carried on and between the cardle arm and shoulder will be moved at a different momentum. With the adjustable counterweight, the coin weight can be detected. The counterweight can be selectively adjusted so that a coin of lesser weight than the true value coin will not move the cradle to the delivery position and will be lodged between the cradle arm and shoulder. The counterweight includes a reduced portion that is located in a channel formed in the cradle and extending radially outward from the pivot axis, and includes an enlarged head portion located outwardly of the cradle channel for digital access for selectively moving the counterweight in the channel.

Adjustable counterweight for one-armed coin cradle

An adjustable oversize coin detector assembly having a coin cradle and a lever pivotally mounted on a frame, the lever having a shoulder disposed for contact with the edge of a coin carried in the cradle arms for pivoting the lever and increasing the distance between the lever shoulder and one cradle arm. A stop engages the lever to limit pivotal movement of the lever and determine the maximum distance between the lever shoulder and the said one cradle arm for allowing a coin of acceptable size to pass between the lever shoulder and said one cradle arm to the passageway, and for precluding passage of an oversize coin between the lever shoulder and the said one cradle arm. The stop is adjustably mounted for selectively varying the predetermined distance between the lever shoulder and said one cradle arm, and thereby selectively determining the size of the coin that will pass between the lever shoulder and the said one cradle arm to the passageway.

Adjustable oversize coin detector assembly

A coin-feeding assembly for equally loading a particular denomination coin into a pair of coin tubes which includes a pair of coin-control units pivotally mounted generally above a pair of reception paths. One of the coin-control units has a coin-blockout deflector movable into and out of a position in an inlet path in which the deflector blocks entry of a coin to one of the reception paths and directs the coin to the other of the reception paths, and has a finger in the said one reception path that is responsive to the entrance of a coin into the said one reception path when the deflector of the said one unit is out of its blocking position for swinging the deflector into such position. The other coin-control unit has a first finger movable into and out of a position in which the first finger retains the coin introduced into the said one reception path, and has a second finger in the said other reception path and responsive to the impact of a coin deflected by said one unit into said other reception path for pivoting the said other unit and moving the said first finger out of its coin-retaining position whereby to release the retained coin. Both coins then move along their respective reception paths for storage.

Interacting coin-blockout units for a preferred loading of coin tubes

Coin testing and separating apparatus includes a coin cradle and a check lever that impedes movement of the cradle when carrying undersize coins or those having milled edge surfaces, thus preventing such coins from being transferred by the cradle to an acceptance passageway of the apparatus.
