A method of producing a security document includes the steps of producing a first part of a color image by color laser marking a security document precursor; and producing a second part of the color image by a second imaging technique different from laser marking. The resulting security document is more difficult to falsify.

Colour imaging of security document precursors

A colour laser markable laminate includes a colour laser markable layer including a leuco dye and an infrared absorbing compound, an optional adhesive layer, a polymeric support, an optional outerlayer, wherein the colour laser markable layer further includes an acid scavenger. The support, the optional adhesive layer, or the optional outer layer includes a UV absorbing compound.

Colour laser markable laminates and documents

A set of laminates includes an outer laminate and an inner laminate, wherein the outer laminate includes a transparent polymeric support including on a first side of the support a color laser markable layer containing an infrared dye having an absorption maximum &#x3bb;(IR-1) in the infrared region; wherein the inner laminate includes a transparent polymeric support including on, a first side of the transparent polymeric support, a color laser markable layer containing an infrared dye having an absorption maximum &#x3bb;(IR-2) in the infrared region and, on a second side of the transparent polymeric support, a color laser markable layer containing an infrared dye having an absorption maximum &#x3bb;(IR-3) in the infrared region; and the conditions a) and b) are satisfied:&#x3bb;(IR-1)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(IR-2)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(IR-3); and&#x2003;&#x2003;a)&#x3bb;(IR-1)&#x3e;1100 nm and &#x3bb;(IR-3)&#x3c;1000 nm.&#x2003;&#x2003;b)

Colour laser marking

A method for preparing a color laser marked article using three infrared lasers L-1, L-2 and L-3 having respectively a laser emission wavelength of &#x3bb;(L-1), &#x3bb;(L-2) and &#x3bb;(L-3) includes the steps of laser marking with the infrared laser L-1 a first color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-1 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region &#x3bb;(IR-1); laser marking with the infrared laser L-2 a second color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-2 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region &#x3bb;(IR-2); laser marking with the infrared laser L-3 a third color laser markable layer including an infrared dye IR-3 having an absorption maximum in the infrared region &#x3bb;(IR-3); and at least partially exposing the color laser markable article to light having a wavelength between 520 nm and 700 nm, wherein, the laser emission wavelengths satisfy the condition of: &#x3bb;(L-1)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(L-2)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(L-3); the infrared red dye absorption maxima satisfy the condition of: &#x3bb;(IR-1)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(IR-2)&#x3e;&#x3bb;(IR-3); and the light emitted by the infrared laser L-1 passes, in order, through the third and second color laser markable layer before exposing the first color laser markable layer.

A security film including, in order, a transparent biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate support (), a subbing layer () and a laser markable layer () comprising a laser additive and one or more polymers selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polycarbonate and styrene acrylonitrile.

Laser markable security film

A security film including a support () and a laser markable layer (), wherein the laser markable layer includes i) a laser additive; ii) a polymer selected from the group consisting of polystyrene, polycarbonate and styrene acrylonitrile; iii) an initiator; and iv) at least 15 wt % of radiation curable compound based on the total dry weight of the laser markable layer, wherein the radiation curable compound has a viscosity of less than 100 mPa&#xb7;s at 25&#xb0; C. and at a shear rate of 100 s. A security document and a method for preparing the security film are also disclosed.

A method for the manufacturing of a tamper proof carrier of information is disclosed comprising a support and an opaque porous ink receiving layer. The carrier comprises at least two sets of information, preferably a first set representing general information or security print, and a second set representing personalized information. The ink receiving layer is rendered transparent by impregnation with a UV curable lacquer whereby the underlying information is revealed. Upon UV curing its mechanical properties are improved. The finished information carrier is preferably cut in a set of multiple identification cards.

A heat-mode exposable imaging material is disclosed which is suitable for making a driographic printing master capable of accepting ink at exposed areas, said material comprising (i) a first layer containing more than 50% by weight of carbon or of an organic light absorbing compound, and (ii) an ink-abhesive second layer underlying said first layer, characterised in that said first layer is removable at non-exposed areas by starting a pressrun without substantially removing said second layer. In a preferred embodiment, the material comprises a support, a silicone coating and a surface coating which consists essentially of carbon, soot or graphite. After heat-mode exposure, the material is ink accepting at exposed areas and the surface coating is removed at non-exposed areas during the start of a pressrun, thereby revealing the silicone coating.
