A device to determine density includes a housing, a first transducer disposed in the housing at a first position, and a second transducer disposed in the housing at a second position. The second transducer is located a distance from the first transducer. The device also includes a controller that reads a first output from the first transducer, and reads a second output from the second transducer. The controller determines a density of a liquid based on the first output, the second output, and the distance.

Disclosed is a filter conditioning unit for cleaning and conditioning high-volume sampling (HVS) filters. The unit includes, among other elements, a filter tray suitable for holding one or more HVS filters, a manifold in which the filter tray is inserted, and an optional enclosure for safety. The manifold is suitable for heating the filter tray and filters therein to a desired temperature while purge gas is introduced to the manifold. Also described herein is a method of using the filter conditioning unit.

Disclosed is a mixing chamber apparatus suitable for high-volume sampling (HVS) application. The mixing chamber apparatus includes, among other elements, inlet and outlet manifolds, a mixing chamber, and a tubing manifold for the introduction of clean, turbulent air into the mixing chamber. The inlet manifold defines a plurality of vapor ports that can be in fluid communication with one or more vapor sources to be sampled and mixed within the mixing chamber. Also described herein is a baffled mixing system that can be used alone or in combination with the disclosed mixing chamber apparatus.

Disclosed is a thermal desorber assembly for desorbing substances collected on a high-volume sampling (HVS) filter. The assembly includes, among other elements, a filter holder for securing a HVS filter within the assembly, a desorber body, and an insulating enclosure. The design of the thermal desorber assembly is such that it can accommodate a variety of different types of HVS filter media. Also described herein is a system comprising the thermal desorber assembly and method of using the assembly.

Examples are directed toward systems and methods relating to collecting and analyzing samples. For example, a system includes a cold trap that directly collects a sample. The cold trap operates to serve as a collection filter while the system draws in a flow across the cold trap. A thermal heater, coupled to the cold trap, flash heats the cold trap to produce a released sample from the cold trap at a release concentration. An analyzer entrains the released sample at the release concentration into a sampling flow of the analyzer for analysis.

The present disclosure is directed to a measurement system for measuring a reflection coefficient of a test sample, including: a transceiver antenna configured to be coupled to a source of electromagnetic radiation; and a RAM positioned between the transceiver antenna and a measurement region of the transceiver antenna, wherein the RAM comprises an aperture substantially orthogonal to and substantially aligned with a transceiving axis of the transceiver antenna. The present disclosure is directed to an artificial skin having a radar absorbing layer and a conductive layer containing an electrically conductive material, wherein the artificial skin has a reflection coefficient substantially equal to a human skin reflection coefficient, the human skin reflection coefficient being determined at an electromagnetic radiation frequency ranging from 1-500 GHz. A human phantom composed of the artificial skin and methods of testing the contrast resolution sufficiency of and active millimeter wave imaging system using the human phantom are also disclosed.

A method to analyze video includes obtaining an image series in an Eulerian or Lagrangian frame of reference, selecting one or more specific regions of interest and extracting to remove irrelevant motion and/or noise, decomposing the extracted images into a plurality of frequency bands and extracting a pixel value time series corresponding to the values of a pixel in each spatial frequency band, magnifying the pixel value time series to obtain a magnified pixel value time series, adding the magnified pixel value time series to the pixel value time series to generate a superimposed pixel value time series, and applying a spatial reconstruction to the superimposed pixel value time series to generate an output image series. A security system to detect motions and/or features associated with a traveler, the security system includes a camera configured to capture an image series of the traveler in an Eulerian or Lagrangian frame of reference, wherein the captured image series contains motions and features associated with the traveler; an alarm system configured to produce an alert signal; and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to magnify the motions and features associated with the traveler to generate frame of reference perceptible motions and features, detect characteristic kinematic behaviors of the perceptible motions and features, measure characteristic kinematic quantities of the characteristic kinematic behaviors, determine the presence of features that deviate from a threshold value for the characteristic kinematic quantities, and activate the alarm system to produce the alert signal.

A security system to detect a concealed item carried by a traveler in motion, the security system includes a camera configured to capture an image series of the traveler in a Eulerian or Lagrangian frame of reference, wherein the captured image series contains motions generated by the concealed item; an alarm system configured to produce an alert signal; and an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to magnify motions generated by the concealed item to generate perceptible motions, provide an output image series that contains the perceptible motion, detect characteristic kinematic behaviors of the concealed item from the output image series, measure characteristic kinematic quantities of the characteristic kinematic behaviors, determine a presence of the concealed item from the characteristic kinematic quantities, and activate the alarm system to produce the alert signal.
