Arthropod containment devices are provided comprising a base plate having a first face, a second face opposite the first face, an outer edge between the first face and the second face; and a containment ridge protruding from the first face along at least a portion of the outer edge, the containment ridge defining a containment region proximate the first face. Also provided are arthropod containment devices comprising a base plate having a first face and a second face opposite the first face, a plurality of guide ridges that protrude from the first face and define at least one containment region, and an arthropod toxicant coated upon or positioned within the containment region.

Apparatus and methods for controlling arthropods

A composition is provided of inorganic polyphosphates which will form a clear, stable solution suitable for injection into meat products. The composition comprises sodium tripolyphosphate and a long-chain glassy phosphate in sufficient quantities to provide 92 to 85 parts by weight sodium tripolyphosphate and 8 to 15 parts by weight of long-chain glassy phosphate, said long-chain glassy phosphate having a degree of polymerization of about 20 to 30, an average mole ratio of (Na.sub.2 O+H.sub.2 O)/P.sub.2 O.sub.5 below about 1.067, and preferably possessing terminal groups on the polyphosphate chain having no less than about 75% OH with the remainder being ONa.

Composition for treatment meat

A fast-dissolving, non-caking, food grade sodium tripolyphosphate is produced by spraying into a spray dryer an aqueous sodium orthophosphate feed liquor having an Na.sub.2 O:P.sub.2 O.sub.5 ratio of from about 1.60 to about 1.67 containing potassium hydroxide or a soluble potassium salt in amounts to yield about 0.4% to 0.8% by weight potassium in the final product, heating the feed to at least 440.degree. C. to form sodium tripolyphosphate, cooling the sodium tripolyphosphate and adding to it at least about 1% by weight moisture.
