A method, system and computer program product for sharing resources among remote repositories. In a shared file system, a resource identifier and metadata are created for a resource, where the resource identifier is stored in a lock file in a shared volume accessible by the remote repositories. The lock file is then released in response to distributing the associated resource to the remote repositories. Alternatively, in a peer-to-peer system, a request is received to create, read, update or delete a resource stored in a content repository. A resource name, a resource version and/or a resource fingerprint are received in connection with the request to create, read, update or delete the resource in the content repository. A determination is then made as to whether the received resource name, resource version and/or resource fingerprint matches the respective resource name, resource version and/or resource fingerprint stored in a node graph for the resource.

Sharing resources among remote repositories utilizing a lock file in a shared file system or a node graph in a peer-to-peer system

According to one aspect of the present disclosure a method and technique for allocating and reserving virtualization-based resources is disclosed. The method includes: receiving, by a virtualization-based resource management system, a reservation request to reserve a set of computing resources; dynamically allocating the set of computing resources to the reservation request; assigning a key to the allocated set of computing resources; and maintaining the allocated set of computing resources in a reserved state until a utilization request is received to utilize the allocated set of computing resources, the utilization request including the key.

Allocation and reservation of virtualization-based resources

A method, system and computer program product for intelligently responding to hardware failures so as to optimize system performance. An administrative server monitors the utilization of the hardware as well as the software components running on the hardware to assess a context of the software components running on the hardware. Upon detecting a hardware failure, the administrative server analyzes the hardware failure to determine the type of hardware failure and analyzes the properties of the workload running on the failed hardware. The administrative server then responds to the detected hardware failure based on various factors, including the type of the hardware failure, the properties of the workload running on the failed hardware and the context of the software running on the failed hardware. In this manner, by taking into consideration such factors in responding to the detected hardware failure, a more intelligent response is provided that optimizes system performance.

Managing shared data objects to share data between computer processes, including a method for executing a plurality of independent processes on an application server, the processes including a first process and a second process. A shared memory utilized by the plurality of independent processes is provided. A single copy of the data and metadata are stored in the shared memory. The metadata includes an address of the data. The first process initiates the storing of the data in the shared memory. An address of the metadata is transferred from the first process to the second process to notify the second process about the data. The second process determines the address of the shared memory by reading the metadata. The data in the shared memory is accessed by the second process.

Managing shared data objects to provide visibility to shared memory

A system for sharing data between computer processes. The system includes a processor configured to implement a method that includes executing a plurality of independent processes on an application server, the processes including a first process and a second process. A shared memory utilized by the plurality of independent processes is provided. A single copy of the data and metadata are stored in the shared memory. The metadata includes an address of the data. The first process initiates the storing of the data in the shared memory. An address of the metadata is transferred from the first process to the second process to notify the second process about the data. The second process determines the address of the shared memory by reading the metadata. The data in the shared memory is accessed by the second process.

One process of a processing environment maintains state on behalf of another process of the processing environment, and uses that state to determine if a problem exists with the another process. The one process is a non-volatile process, while the another process is a volatile process.
