A Modal antenna system, control system, and algorithm is described which provides for improved connectivity in a communication system where statistics of previous antenna modes or beam positions for a mobile device operating in conjunction with specific base stations, access points, or other communication terminals are used to make intelligent decisions for current antenna beam state for optimal connectivity. A modal antenna is implemented to provide a variable radiation pattern for improved connectivity and an algorithm is provided that controls current beam position as the mobile device moves through a communication network.

Wireless communication system and related methods for use in a social network

A system and method are provided for wireless communication to operate with multiple network connections sequentially based on priorities. Antenna systems comprising modal antennas for use in diversity and similar schemes include a modal antenna capable of multiple antenna modes wherein a distinct radiation pattern exists for each antenna mode, and a control signal for directing variation of the antenna modes. Methods for designing modal diversity antennas are further disclosed.

Modal antenna with correlation management for diversity applications

A modal adaptive antenna system that dynamically samples proximity sensors or other sensors to determine the use case for the wireless device and then adjust the antenna radiating mode to optimize communication link performance. The modal adaptive antenna system is capable of modifying the antenna radiation pattern to improve communication link quality along with near-field parameters such as SAR and HAC. An algorithm and look-up table containing pre-measured electrical parameters to include TRP, TIS, and SAR are developed and integrated with hardware which includes an antenna and active components to dynamically modify the radiation pattern of the antenna as well as proximity sensors and or other sensing devices.

Automatic signal, SAR, and HAC adjustment with modal antenna using proximity sensors or pre-defined conditions

An active antenna system and algorithm is proposed that provides for dynamic tuning and optimization of antenna system parameters for a MIMO system that will provide for greater throughput. As one or multiple antennas are loaded or de-tuned due to environmental changes, corrections to correlation and/or isolation are made by tuning the active antenna. A null-steering technique is implemented to alter the near-field and far-field characteristics to aid in modifying correlation and isolation in the multi-antenna system.

A self-reconfigurable multimode antenna system where loading conditions of sensors are analyzed and used to generate control signals to dynamically reconfigure an antenna for improved performance. One or multiple sensors can be coupled to the antenna to dynamically change the radiating structure. One or multiple sensors can be coupled to the input or matching section of the antenna to improve or alter the impedance match of the antenna. An algorithm to relate loading effects of sensors to dynamically adjust the antenna is described.

Active self-reconfigurable multimode antenna system

This application describes a dynamically tuned front end module using a modal antenna approach for improved communication system performance. The front end module consists of power amplifiers, filters, switches and antennas along with tuning circuits integrated and controlled to provide an optimized system for RF transmission. Dynamic tuning provides the ability to maintain optimized system performance for a wide variety of use cases and environments that the wireless device is operated in. Several transmission modes are accessed in an algorithm to optimize the performance of multiple wireless devices in a cellular system, to include a power conservation mode, emergency transmission mode, and cell capacity optimization mode. Dynamic adjustment of correlation and isolation between multiple antennas is a benefit provided by this front end topology.
