This invention provides a method of preventing or reversing pulmonary inflammation in a mammal by administering an effective amount of rapamycin orally, parenterally, intranasally, or intrabronchially. As such, rapamycin is useful in providing the symptomatic relief of diseases in which pulmonary inflammation is a component such as, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, acute respiratory distress syndrome, bronchitis, and the like.

The imidazolylthio substituted alkanoic acids represented by the formula (I) or (IA) as defined herein have been found to be leukotriene antagonists and useful in the treatment of diseases in which leukotrienes are a factor, such as asthma.

Methods of antagonizing the effects of thromboxane A.sub.2 in the circulatory system of an animal which comprises administering to said animal a nontoxic effective amount of N,N'-bis[7-(3-chlorobenzeneaminosulfonyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolyl]di sulfonylimide or a pharamaceutical acceptable salt thereof are valuable in the treatment of diseases in which thromboxane A.sub.2 is a factor, such as thrombosis, endotoxic shock and cardiac anaphylaxis.
