A thermographic substrate assembly comprised of a colorant and a flexible substrate. This assembly also contains a thermosensitive layer, and the thermosensitive layer contains a binder, a multiplicity of hollow sphere organic pigments, and a thermal solvent.

Thermographic imaging element

A thermal transfer printing medium that contains a thermal transfer layer which contains a first taggant and colorant, wherein: the first taggant comprises a fluorescent compound with an excitation wavelength selected from the group consisting of wavelengths of less than 400 nanometers, wavelengths of greater than 700 nanometers. When the thermal transfer layer is printed onto a white polyester substrate with a gloss of at least about 84, a surface smoothness Rz value of 1.2, and a reflective color represented by a chromaticity (a) of 1.91 and (b) of &#x2212;6.79 and a lightness (L) of 95.63, when expressed by the CIE Lab color coordinate system, and when such printing utilizes a printing speed of 2.5 centimeters per second and a printing energy of 3.2 joules per square centimeter, a printed substrate with certain properties is produced. The printed substrate has a reflective color represented by a chromaticity (a) of from &#x2212;15 to 15 and (b) from &#x2212;18 to 18, and the printed substrate has a lightness (L) of less than about 35, when expressed by the CIE Lab color coordinate system. When the printed substrate is illuminated with light source that excites the first taggant with an excitation wavelength selected from the group consisting of wavelengths of less than 400 nanometers, wavelengths greater than 700 nanometers, the printed substrate produces a light fluorescence with a wavelength of from about 300 to about 700 nanometers.

Thermal transfer ribbon

Disclosed is a thermal printing assembly comprised of a first flexible section and a second flexible section joined to such first flexible section. The first section of such assembly is a thermally sensitive media that contains either a thermal transfer ribbon or a direct thermal sensitive substrate (such as thermal paper); the thermally sensitive media is adapted to change its concentration of ink upon the application of heat. The second section of such assembly is a flexible support with two sides, at least one of which has a smoothness of less than 50 Sheffield Units and contains particles with a Knoop hardness of less than about 800.

Thermal printing and cleaning assembly

A thermal printing assembly comprised of a first flexible section and a second flexible section joined to such first flexible section. The first section of such assembly is a thermally sensitive media that contains either a thermal transfer ribbon, a dye sublimation ribbon, or a direct thermal sensitive substrate (such as thermal paper); the thermally sensitive media is adapted to change its concentration of ink upon the application of heat. The second section of such assembly is a flexible support with two sides, at least one of which has a smoothness of less than 50 Sheffield Units and contains particles with a Knoop hardness of less than about 800 and the other side has an adhesive coating designed to remove dirt and debris from surfaces it contacts during use.

A thermal transfer assembly that comprises a thermal transfer ribbon and a covercoated transfer sheet. The thermal transfer ribbon includes a support and a ceramic ink layer. The ceramic ink layer is present at a coating weight of from about 2 to about 15 grams per square meter, and it includes from about 15 to about 94.5 percent of a solid carbonaceous binder, and at least one of a film-forming glass frit, an opacifying agent and a colorant (at a combined level for the film forming glass frit, the opacifying agent and the colorant of at least 0.5 weight percent).

A heat-sensitive coating composition, and heat-sensitive material for thermal imaging containing the heat sensitive composition. The composition comprises a color-forming amount of a finely divided, solid, colorless noble metal salt of an organic acid; a color-developing amount of an organic reducing agent which at thermal copy and printing temperatures is capable of a color-forming reaction with the noble metal salt; an image toning agent; and a carrier composition in which the noble metal salt, organic reducing agent, and toning agent are distributed. The carrier composition requires no organic solvents and comprises one or more substantially water-soluble polymeric carrier materials and a solubility-enhancing amount of a dispersing agent. A protective, clarifying, radiation-cured overcoat is provided. Methods of forming the heat-sensitive composition and the overcoat are also disclosed.

Aqueous coating composition for thermal imaging film

An improved heat sensitive coating composition and heat sensitive paper for thermal printing containing the composition are disclosed. The composition contains a color-forming amount of a finely divided solid colorless or pale colored chromogenic fluoran dyestuff, a color-developing amount of a finely divided mixture of benzyl p-hydroxy benzoate and a halogenated derivative of 4,4'-isopropylidenediphenol and a carrier composition.

Heat sensitive coating

A heat-sensitive coating composition for a thermo-responsive printing or recording record material for thermal printing devices comprising a color-forming amount of a finely divided solid chromogenous basic 3, 3-bisarylphthalane derivative, and a color-developing amount of a finely divided solid phenol derivative which at thermal printing temperature is at least partially fluidizable and capable of a color-forming reaction with the chromogenous 3,3-bisarylphthalane derivative distributed in a carrier composition comprising a substantially water soluble anionic polysaccharide gum and a stability enhancing amount of sucrose benzoate.

A color forming heat sensitive coating composition comprising a color forming amount of a finely divided homogenous basic 3,3-bisarylphthalane derivative and a color developing amount of a finely divided solid phenyl derivative which at thermal printing temperature is at least partly fluidizable and capable of a color forming reaction with said 3,3-bisarylphthalane compound dispersed in a polyvinyl alcohol carrier is disclosed wherein the improvement comprises the addition of an anti-sticking amount of a functional filler which may be a di(lower alkyl)dithiocarbamate or lower alkylxanthate of lead, zinc, cadmium and alkaline earth metals or a tetra (lower alkyl)thiuram disulfide or a di(lower alkyl) xanthogen.
