A method implemented in a mobile station ('MS'). When the MS transmits, it generates radio frequency ('RF') energy. To limit exposure to RF energy, regulatory agencies determined a maximum transmission power for mobile stations. The amount of RF energy considered safe is that generated when the MS is transmitting continuously at the maximum transmission power for a predetermined period. The method first determines whether the maximum transmission power is too low to effect communication between the MS and a base station. If it is, the transmission power is increased and if possible, the data transmission rate of outbound data is reduced to at or below a data rate threshold that reduces the RF energy generated by the mobile station to an amount considered safe. Then, any data having a data transmission rate less than or equal to the data rate threshold is transmitted at the increased transmission power.

Systems and methods for dual wireless communication technology communications are provided. A mobile station communicates with two transceivers of a base site, where each transceiver operates according to a different wireless communication technology. The mobile station can communicate uplink and downlink control information with a first transceiver of the base site while also communicating uplink and downlink data with a second transceiver. Alternatively, the mobile station may transmit uplink transmissions only to a first transceiver and only receive downlink transmissions from a second transceiver.

Enhanced coverage and throughput using multiple wireless technologies

Systems and methods for providing in-building wireless network coverage are disclosed. An exemplary method for providing in-building wireless network coverage includes coupling a wireless repeater to an exterior power outlet of the building, and coupling a wireless in-building base station to an interior power outlet of the building. The exterior and interior power outlets are coupled to each other via the building's electrical power wiring. The wireless repeater forwards information received from a wireless macro network base station to the wireless in-building base station, and forwards information received from the wireless in-building base station to the wireless macro network base station.

System and method for providing in-building wireless network coverage

Disclosed is a personal identity beacon, which can be attached to a keychain, integrated into jewelry, and the like. The personal identity beacon can include a GPS receiver and a transmitter for communicating with a wireless macro network. The subscriber is also provided with universal service identifiers (e.g., telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and the like). The beacon periodically determines its current location and forwards its determined location to the wireless macro network. A subscriber registers geographic locations for forwarding communication services, such as home, the office, and the like, and corresponding communication service identifiers. When the wireless macro network receives a geographic location from the beacon identifying a new location, which corresponds to one registered by the subscriber, the wireless macro network automatically forwards communications destined for the universal service identifiers to the subscriber's communication service identifiers registered for that location, e.g., phone calls to a landline phone, e-mail to a particular e-mail account, etc. Because the personal identity beacon is integrated with, or attached to, an article, which a consumer will always carry with them, the personal identity beacon simplifies the automatic forwarding of communication services.
