A wedge connector system for connecting first and second elongate electrical conductors includes a C-shaped sleeve member, a wedge member, and an insert member. The sleeve member defines a sleeve cavity and opposed first and second sleeve channels on either side of the sleeve cavity. The wedge member includes a wedge body having first and second opposed wedge side walls. The insert member is configured to be selectively mounted in the first sleeve channel and defines an insert member channel to receive the first conductor when the insert member is mounted in the first sleeve channel. The sleeve member and the wedge member are configured to capture the first and second conductors such that: the first conductor is received in the insert member channel and captured between the sleeve member and the first wedge side wall; and the second conductor is captured between the sleeve member and the second wedge side wall.

Wedge connector assemblies and methods and connections including same

A wedge connector system for connecting first and second elongate electrical conductors includes a C-shaped sleeve member, a wedge member and a locking mechanism. The sleeve member defines a sleeve cavity and opposed first and second sleeve channels on either side of the sleeve cavity. The wedge member includes a wedge body having first and second opposed wedge side walls. The locking mechanism includes a lock member including a sleeve engagement portion, and a clamping mechanism coupled to the wedge member. The sleeve member and the wedge member are configured to capture the first and second conductors such that the first conductor is received in the first sleeve channel between the sleeve member and the first wedge side wall and the second conductor is received in the second sleeve channel between the sleeve member and the second wedge side wall. The locking mechanism is mountable on the sleeve member and the wedge member such that the sleeve engagement portion interlocks with the sleeve member and the clamping mechanism can be operated to force the wedge member into the sleeve cavity to apply clamping loads on the first and second conductors.

An in-line cable termination system for use with first and second electrical power transmission cables includes an isolating apparatus having an isolating apparatus axis and including an electrically conductive first end member and an electrically conductive second end member, first and second insulators, and a fused switch mechanism. The first end member and the second end member are spaced apart along the isolating apparatus axis. Each of the first and second end members includes a respective coupling portion to mechanically and electrically engage the first and second cables, respectively. The first and second insulators each extend between and couple the first end member and the second end member. The fused switch mechanism includes a fuse module and is configured to selectively alternatively electrically connect the first and second end members, and thereby the first and second cables, through the fuse module and disconnect the first and second end members.

In-line cable termination systems for electrical power transmission cables and methods using the same

A connector assembly for use with a mining cable coupler includes a first connector and a second connector. The first connector includes a front portion including a plug and a rear portion including a barrel configured to receive a first conductor. The second connector includes a front portion including a socket having a channel defined therein and a rear portion including a barrel configured to receive a second conductor. An annular groove is defined in an inner surface of the channel. An annular spring held in the annular groove. The channel is sized and configured to receive the plug such that the plug resiliently contacts the spring to electrically connect the first conductor received in the first connector barrel and the second conductor received in the second connector barrel.

Mining cable coupler connectors and related assemblies and methods

An electrical connection assembly includes a plurality of primary electrical conductors, a secondary electrical conductor, and an electrical connector. The electrical connector includes: a first connector body including an exterior conductor seat channel; a second connector body coupled to the first connector body such that the first and second connector bodies collectively form an axial through passage; a primary clamping mechanism on at least one of the first and second connector bodies; and a secondary clamping mechanism on the first connector body. The secondary connector extends through the exterior conductor seat channel and is clamped therein by the secondary clamping mechanism. The primary conductors extend through the axial through passage and are clamped therein by the primary clamping mechanism to the first and second connector bodies and to one another to mechanically and electrically connect the primary and secondary conductors.

Electrical connectors and methods for using same

A connector system for connecting first and second elongate conductors includes a wedge connector and a hydraulic power drive tool assembly. The wedge connector includes: a sleeve member defining a sleeve cavity and mountable on the first and second conductors; a wedge member; and a lubricant coating disposed on at least one of the sleeve member and the wedge member. The hydraulic power drive tool assembly is adapted to drive the wedge member into the sleeve cavity when the sleeve member is mounted on the first and second conductors to secure the wedge connector to each of the first and second conductors. According to some embodiments, the lubricant is a wax.

Apparatus for connecting conductors using a wedge connector

An electrical connector tool assembly is disclosed. The tool assembly includes a conductor tool and a connector tool connected to and cooperable with the conductor tool. The tool assembly can be used in connecting a first conductor to a second conductor with an electrical connector. The tool assembly is adjustably arranged and disposed to receive and removably retain a first conductive member of an electrical connector in the connector tool and is further arranged and disposed to both to hold the second conductor in place relative to a second conductive member of the electrical connector and to prevent rotation of the second conductive member with respect to the first conductive member.

An electrical connector assembly includes a first conductive member and a second conductive member. The first conductive member includes a first channel portion extending from a first wedge portion, with the first channel portion configured to receive a first conductor therein. The first conductive member includes a jaw movably coupled to the first channel portion and being positioned between the first channel portion and the first wedge portion. The second conductive member includes a second channel portion extending from a second wedge portion where the second channel portion configured to receive a second conductor. The first wedge portion and the second wedge portion are assembled such that the second wedge portion engages the jaw and moves the jaw to the closed position. The jaw engages the first conductor in the closed position. Optionally, the first channel portion may have a contoured shape.

An electrical connector assembly for power utility transmission conductors includes a first conductive member having a tap conductor engagement surface adapted for interfacing with a tap conductor and a main conductor engagement surface adapted for interfacing with a main conductor. The first conductive member also includes a conductive member engagement surface adapted for interfacing with a second conductive member. The second conductive member is mechanically and electrically coupled to the first conductive member. The second conductive member has a tap conductor engagement surface adapted for interfacing with the tap conductor and a main conductor engagement surface adapted for interfacing with the main conductor. The second conductive member also includes a conductive member engagement surface adapted for interfacing with the conductive member engagement surface of the first conductive member. A lubricant is applied to at least one engagement surface of the first conductive member, and is applied to at least one engagement surface of the second conductive member.

A method for connecting first and second elongate conductors using a wedge connector includes: providing a wedge connector including a sleeve member, a wedge member, and a lubricant coating disposed on at least one of the sleeve member and the wedge member, the sleeve member defining a sleeve cavity; mounting the sleeve member on the first and second conductors; and driving the wedge member into the sleeve cavity using a hydraulic power drive tool assembly to secure the wedge connector to each of the first and second conductors.
