A cart including a container that defines an interior space. The cart also includes a cover that is movable between an open position providing access to the interior space and a closed position inhibiting access to the interior space, and a latch that is located between the container and the cover to releasably hold the cover in the closed position. The cart further includes a hands-free mechanism that is coupled to the container and engaged with the cover to move the cover between the open position and the closed position. The hands-free mechanism is further coupled to the latch and operable to disengage the latch to permit movement of the cover to the open position.

A receptacle for holding a meltable sharps container during a sterilization process in which the meltable sharps container and any contained sharps are heated. The receptacle includes a side wall and a bottom wall having respective interior surfaces defining a space for receiving the meltable sharps container. The receptacle also includes a plurality of recessed areas in the interior surface of the bottom wall, and a plurality of elevated areas on the interior surface of the bottom wall, whereby as the sharps container melts, material from the sharps container flows into the recessed areas and the elevated areas hold the contained sharps above the recessed areas, so as to inhibit the contained sharps from protruding through the melted sharps container.

Methods and apparatus for collecting and disposing of sharps

A drainage device and a method for draining a liner-type suction canister. The drainage device includes a swingarm, a drainhead, and a suction source. The drainhead is positioned to be in fluid communication with the liner-type suction canister. The swingarm rotates to activate the suction source and invert the liner-type suction canister. The contents of the liner-type suction canister drain to a sewer system. The method includes the acts of placing the liner-type suction canister on the swingarm, coupling the drainhead to the liner-type suction canister, rotating the swingarm, and activating the suction source.

Medical suction apparatus and methods for draining same

A drainage device and a method for draining a liner-type medical suction apparatus and a rigid-walled container. The drainage device preferably includes a swingarm, a drainhead, and a suction source. The drainhead is positioned to be in fluid communication with the liner-type suction canister or the rigid-walled canister. The swingarm rotates to activate the suction source and inverts the liner-type suction canister or rigid-walled canister. The contents of the canister drain to a sewer system. The method includes the acts of placing the canister on the drainage device, coupling the drainhead to the canister, and activating the suction source.

Medical suction apparatus and draining of same

A medical apparatus for draining bodily fluid from a container, such as a suction canister. The medical apparatus can include a support area and a drainage reservoir having an inlet in communication with the support area and an outlet in communication with a drain. The drainage reservoir can collect the bodily fluid from the container before the bodily fluid flows into the drain. Some embodiments of the medical apparatus include a drainage conduit or a drainage pipe. In some embodiments, the drainage reservoir is constructed of a transparent material. The medical apparatus can include a venturi valve and, in some embodiments, the water passing through the venturi valve remains separate from the bodily fluid until the water and the bodily fluid reach the drain.

Method and apparatus for disposing of bodily fluids from a container

A method and apparatus for draining a liner-type medical suction apparatus. The method includes the acts of positioning the liner-type medical suction apparatus relative to a drainage device including a conduit, causing the conduit to communicate with the liner interior, and draining the fluid from the liner interior through the conduit. The apparatus includes a support member adapted to support the liner-type medical suction apparatus and a drainage device housing adjacent to the support member. The device also includes a conduit including a first end coupled to the drainage device housing and a second end for communication with the liner interior.

A method of removing body fluids from a patient and disposing of the body fluids, the method comprising the steps of (a) providing a container including a bottom wall having therein a drain, (b) providing a drainage device for automatically opening the drain and draining the contents of the container, (c) collecting body fluids in the container, (d) placing the container on the drainage device, and (e) operating the drainage device so that the drainage device opens the drain and drains the contents of the container.

A wick assembly for use in a humidifier including a housing defining an air inlet, an air outlet, and a reservoir adapted to contain water, a fan for creating an air flow path between the inlet and the outlet, and a float assembly for stopping the operation of the fan when an insufficient amount of water is present within the reservoir, the float assembly including a float rod, the wick assembly having a lower portion locatable within the reservoir and an upper portion locatable within the air flow path so that the wick assembly conducts water from the reservoir to the air flow path, the wick assembly including a frame, an absorbent wick supported by the frame, and a retainer mounted on the frame for movement between an extended position wherein the retainer can support the float rod, and a retracted position facilitating packaging of the wick assembly.
