A cord-reel assembly mounted within a wall and powered by an in-wall electric power line or an adjacent wall socket. The cord-reel assembly includes a reel rotatably supported within a housing and an extension cord wound on the reel. An electrical socket is located on one end of the extension cord. The extension cord unwinds from the reel to position the electrical socket at locations remote from the housing. In alternate installations, a cover plate jointly covers the cord-reel assembly and the adjacent wall socket. The cover plate also electrically couples the cord reel assembly to the wall socket. Additional features such as an on/off switch, surge protection and surge indicator may also be provided on the cover plate.

Cord-reel assembly mounted within a wall

A modular assembly for electrically coupling to a duplex wall socket having a pair of outlets. A first modular unit has a first set of electrical prongs for inserting into one of the outlets. The first set of electrical prongs power a large number of receptacles provided on the first modular unit. An aperture is formed within the first modular unit to expose the other outlet. A second modular unit having a second set of electrical prongs is plugged through the aperture into the second outlet. The second modular unit includes a reel mounted extension cord with additional receptacles on the end of the extension cord. When used together, the modular units matingly engage to provide a stabilized assembly with a large number of local and remote receptacles.

Modular outlet assembly

Two-way telephone communication is established between a subscriber-dwelling and a remote station using the automatic dialer of existing security apparatus. A speaker and a microphone are placed in the dwelling. A diplexer electrically coupled to the automatic dialer and responsive to a tone of a given frequency, operates a switch which selectively applies either the microphone or the speaker to the audio circuitry of the dialer. When the dialer is triggered, the switch couples the microphone to the audio circuitry of the dialer whereby sounds in the dwelling are communicated to the remote station. When an employee at the remote station applies the tone to the link, the diplexer causes the switch electrically to isolate the microphone and couple the speaker to the dialer whereby the employee of the station can communicate with the dwelling. Alternate operation of either the speaker or microphone prevents accoustical feedback between the two.
