A surge suppressor includes a surge suppression device. A novel current limiting fuse design prevents current flow when the surge suppression device fails. A thermal fusing device is configured to prevent current flow when excessive heat is generated in the surge suppression device. A novel enclosure is used for containing the surge suppression device, over current fuse and thermal fuse. The foregoing and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become more readily apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention which proceeds with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Surge suppressor enclosure and fusing system

A power surge protection assembly for use in electrical panel boxes having multiple electrical components. The power surge protection assembly includes a bus bar connected to a power supply, typically ground. The power surge protection assembly additionally includes a suppression box having a top surface, a bottom surface, sides, and ends for encasing a power surge suppression circuit. A conductor extends outward from an end of the suppression box. A coupler is attached to the bus bar for receiving the conductor and mechanically coupling the suppression box to the bus bar and electrically coupling the suppression box to the power supply. A variety of conductors and couplers are disclosed including post, bar, and plug conductors and snap ring, clip, jack, and bore couplers. The power surge protection assembly is particularly adapted for stacking two or more surge suppression boxes.

Power surge protection assembly

An electrically powered annunciating system, for use in electrical panel boxes, having a sensing circuit including a first acoustic transducer to transmit a sonic signal to an annunciating circuit having a second acoustical transducer at a spaced distance from the first transducer to operate the annunciating circuit responsive to a sonic signal received from the first transducer. The sensing circuit powers the first acoustical transducer to produce a sonic signal responsive to a sensed electrical event such as termination of power to an electrical component. The annunciating circuit includes a tuned amplifier for signal purification and amplification, a time delay integrator to prevent accidental circuit operation caused by noise and an annunciator and a communication interface activated responsive to a sonic signal received by the second transducer. The annunciating system is particularly adapted for use in electrical panel boxes having multiple electrical components that are coupled by post and bus bar type connections, to alleviate the use of flexible wiring in the box for annunciating circuits.

A surge suppression system includes a surge suppression circuit having multiple surge suppression elements each capable of activating during a voltage transient or other power surge condition. A multi-level monitoring circuit surveys the percentage of operational surge suppression elements. The monitoring circuit generates a low priority signal when a small percentage of the surge suppression elements are disabled. The monitoring circuit generates a high priority signal when a second higher percentage of the surge suppressor elements are disabled. In another aspect of the invention, each fuse is formed as a trace on a printed circuit board.
