Described herein are technologies related to testing computer code for bugs, wherein the computer code is to run in kernel mode of an operating system. The computer code is executed in kernel mode of a first operating system, and content of memory that is mapped to kernel mode address space of the first operating system is transferred to user mode memory that is mapped to user mode address space of a second operating system. The computer code is executed in user mode and tested while being executed in user mode.

Testing kernel mode computer code by executing the computer code in user mode

Techniques for creating breadcrumbs for a trail of activity are described. The trail of activity may be created by recording movement information based on inferred actions of walking, not walking, or changing floor levels. The movement information may be recorded with an accelerometer and a pressure sensor. A representation of a list of breadcrumbs may be visually displayed on a user interface of a mobile device, in a reverse order to retrace steps. In some implementations, a compass may additionally or alternatively be used to collect directional information relative to the earth's magnetic poles.

Retracing steps

The described implementations relate to virtual computing techniques. One implementation provides a technique that can include receiving a request to execute an application. The application can include first application instructions from a guest instruction set architecture. The technique can also include loading an emulator and a guest operating system into an execution context with the application. The emulator can translate the first application instructions into second application instructions from a host instruction set architecture. The technique can also include running the application by executing the second application instructions.

Instruction set emulation for guest operating systems

Systems and methods for virtualizing audio decoding hardware of a guest audio decoder are disclosed. A method may include storing received encoded audio in main memory of a host computing device. An operation to access a register or memory of the audio decoding hardware of the guest audio decoder may be intercepted. The register or memory has an associated address in the main memory of the host computing device. The intercepted operation can include a register WRITE operation, and can be translated into an operation associated with accessing dedicated decoder memory of a host audio decoder of the host computing device.

Virtualizing audio decoding hardware

Resource processing, such as shader translation, during run time of an application on an emulated platform, can be performed asynchronously from emulation of the application. One or more server computers can be configured to perform such processing remotely from the computers executing the emulation. The one or more server computers can receive resources for processing from multiple computers. The one or more server computers aggregate the resources received from the multiple computers for different applications and process those resources. For example, multiple shaders, discovered from multiple different emulations of an application on multiple computers, are translated and organized by the one or more server computers. The translated shaders can be packaged as an update to the application and redistributed to the computers using the application. Such an update can be installed on the computers as a set of translated shaders for use in the emulation of the application.

Remote translation, aggregation and distribution of computer program resources in graphics processing unit emulation

The claimed subject matter includes techniques for discovering to and connecting to a service controller. The claimed subject matter may disclose a processor and a memory of a service controller to store connection information, an access credential, and an access credential hash. A beacon broadcaster to broadcast the connection information and the access credential hash to a client device, may also be disclosed. The present disclosure may also include an access credential director to send the access credential to an out-of-band communicator. The present disclosure may also include a client connector to receive a connection request from the client device and allow access to a client device based on the client device's use of the connection information.

Discovery and connection to a service controller

Various technologies pertaining to authenticating a password in a manner that prevents offline dictionary attacks are described. A protected module, which can be a hardware security module, a trusted platform module, or the like, is in communication with an authentication server. The protected module comprises a key that is restricted to the protected module. The key is employed in connection with authenticating the password on the protected module.

Utilization of a protected module to prevent offline dictionary attacks

Examples of the disclosure enable callback operations, such as interrupts, Asynchronous Procedure Calls (APCs), and Deferred Procedure Calls (DPCs), to be efficiently managed. In some examples, an emulated thread includes a request for a callback operation. When the request is detected, the emulated thread and/or a cooperating thread associated with the callback operation is executed based on an execution mode associated with the callback operation. Examples of the disclosure manage callback operations while efficiently managing system resources, including processor load, by providing at least one cooperating thread that consumes little or no processing power until the callback operation is ready to be executed.

Managing callback operations in emulated environments

A method that can be used in a distributed workflow system that uses loosely coupled computation of stateless nodes to bring computation tasks to the compute nodes is disclosed. The method can be employed in a computing system, such as cloud computing system, that can generate a computing task separable into work units and performed by a set of distributed and decentralized workers. In one example, the method arranges the work units into a directed acyclic graph representing execution priorities between the work units. The plurality of distributed and decentralized workers query the directed acyclic graph for work units ready for execution based upon the directed acyclic graph. In one example, the method is included in a computer readable storage medium as a software program.

Distributed workflow in loosely coupled computing

A method of operating a computing device includes dynamically managing at least two types of memory based on workloads, or requests from different types of applications. A first type of memory may be high performance memory that may have a higher bandwidth, lower memory latency and/or lower power consumption than a second type of memory in the computing device. In an embodiment, the computing device includes a system on a chip (SoC) that includes Wide I/O DRAM positioned with one or more processor cores. A Low Power Double Data Rate 3 dynamic random access memory (LPDDR3 DRAM) memory is externally connected to the SoC or is an embedded part of the SoC. In embodiments, the computing device may be included in at least a cell phone, mobile device, embedded system, video game, media console, laptop computer, desktop computer, server and/or datacenter.

Dynamic allocation of heterogenous memory in a computing system

A library operating system is employed in conjunction with an application in a virtual environment to facilitate dynamic application migration. An application executing in a virtual environment with a library operating system on a first machine can be suspended, and application state can be captured. Subsequently, the state can be restored and execution resumed on the first machine or a second machine.

Dynamic application migration

A reusable expression graph system and method that generates reusable expression graphs that can be used with potentially different input parameters in order to achieve computational efficiency and ease of programming. Reusable expression graph mitigate the need to rebuild an expression for each new value. This is achieved in part by creating a node called a 'parameter node.' The parameter node acts as a generic placeholder for a leaf node in the expression graph. In addition, the parameter node acts as a proxy for a bindable term of the leaf node, and the bindable term can be either a value or one or more additional expressions. The parameter node then is bound to the bindable term and the expression is evaluated with that bindable term instead of the placeholder. The parameter node created by embodiments of the reusable expression graph system and method works across many different programming languages.

The subject innovation relates to systems and/or methodologies for using randomly positioned electromagnetic scatterers deposited into a predetermined region of an optical storage medium (e.g., Blue Ray DVD, HD DVD, CD, etc.) as a distinct three dimensional (3D) hard-to-copy digital rights management feature. A scatterers' topology is scanned using a matrix of antennas that sense the scatterers' electromagnetic response as the optical disc revolves at near-constant angular speed. The response, f, called an RF fingerprint, is then concatenated with an arbitrary text, t, that defines the digital rights management information imposed by the disk publisher.
