A hat () for a neonate () comprising: a central portion (), a first side portion () and second side portion () attached to opposite sides of the central portion (), a first fastener (); a top flap () and a second fastener (). The hat () has an unfolded configuration and a worn configuration. In the unfolded configuration the first and second portions () extend away from each other from the central portion () in opposite directions. In the worn configuration the hat () wraps a neonate's head with the central portion () in contact with the back of the neonate's head, the first portion () wrapped around a first side of the neonate's head and the second portion () wrapped around a second side of the neonate's head. The first and second portions () are configured to be fastened together in the worn configuration by the first fastener () so that the first portion (), central portion () and second portion () together define a hat () rim encircling the neonate's head. The top flap () is configured to cover the top of the neonate's head in the worn configuration. The top flap () is configured to be fastened to at least one of the first, central and second portions () by the second fastener (). The hat () further comprises an optical physiological sensor that comprises: a flexible circuit board, a light emitter () and a light detector (); the flexible circuit board having: a sensor portion () to which the light emitter () and light detector () are connected; a module portion () including contacts () for electrically connecting the light emitter () and light detector () to a removable readout module (); and an elongate lead portion () between the sensor portion () and module portion ().

Hat and monitoring system

The disclosure relates to an airway maintenance device, such as an endotracheal tube, tracheostomy tube, or supraglottic airway device, and in particular to an airway maintenance device having a sensor for measuring capillary blood flow and/or pressure. The device includes an airway maintenance device with an airway lumen having a proximal end and a distal end, a distal end portion incorporating an optical sensor configured to measure capillary blood flow in tissue surrounding the distal end when in position within a patient's airway. The optical sensor may include a portion of an optical fibre extending to the distal end portion along the lumen.

Airway maintenance device

A photoplethysmograph device includes a light source for illuminating a target object. A modulator drives the light source such that the output intensity varies as a function of a modulation signal at a modulation frequency. A detector receives light from the target object and generates an electrical output as a function of the intensity of received light. A demodulator with a local oscillator receives the detector output and produces a demodulated output, insensitive to any phase difference between the modulation signal and the oscillator, indicative of blood volume as a function of time and/or blood composition. A number of demodulators may be provided to derive signals from multiple light sources of different wavelengths, or from an array of detectors. The plethysmograph may operate in a transmission mode or a reflectance mode. When in a reflectance mode, the device may use the green part of the optical spectrum and may use polarising filters.

Photoplethysmography

The invention concerns fetal movement monitoring apparatus having a deflection sensor device arranged to be applied to a mother's abdomen for detection of abdominal deflections indicative of fetal movements and to output a signal comprising one or more record of said abdominal deflections. A processor under the control of machine readable instructions is arranged to process the signal output from the deflection sensor device and to output a log of fetal movement over time. The processor is arranged to receive one or more further input indicative of maternal or fetal movement or wellbeing, for example from a second sensor device by which a user can input a record of perceived fetal movements. The processor may compare the output of the first sensor device and the user's input via the second sensor device and output a log of fetal movements over time based upon said comparison.

Fetal movement monitor

The invention concerns a multi-electrode patch for abdominal electrophysiological detection. The patch has a flexible substrate interconnecting multiple electrodes and a module unit for removably engaging with an electronic readout device for detecting a maternal and/or fetal electrophysiological signal from the electrodes. The module has a mechanical module unit for removable mechanical engagement with a housing of the readout device, and an electrical module unit for making an electrical connection from the electrodes to the readout device. Engaging the patch with the readout device comprises engaging both the mechanical module unit and the electrical module unit. The patch may be flexible in a manner that allows variation in the relative positioning between the electrodes. The patch and/or electronic readout device may comprise a security device for communication of an authentication code.

Apparatus and method for detecting an abdominal electrophysiological signal

An apparatus and method for detecting uterine activity uses cutaneous electrodes on the maternal abdomen to obtain electrophysiological signals that can be used to obtain fetal and maternal heart rate. The apparatus includes a first input for receiving electrical signals from the cutaneous electrodes and a second input for receiving movement signals indicative of a movement of the maternal body from a movement detector. A signal processor separates a uterine electromyogram signal from fetal and maternal heart rate signals and filters out motion artifacts from the electromyogram using the movement signals. An output presents electrohysterogram (EHG) data from the uterine electromyogram signal.

Monitoring uterine activity

The invention relates to large area electrodes suitable for use in a fetal heart rate monitoring systems. The electrode comprises: a cutaneous gel contact () for sensing fetal electrocardiogram signals from a human pregnant subject; an electrical conductor () electrically connected to the gel contact () so as to define a first electrical contact region; a connector () in electrical contact with the electrical conductor () for connection to a lead wire; and a substructure () for attachment to a human pregnant subject. The gel contact () and the electrical conductor () are arranged on the substructure () to allow a contact surface () of the gel contact () to be in electrical communication with the skin of a human pregnant subject to define a second electrical contact region. The second electrical contact region has an area greater than 370 square millimeters. When arranged on a predefined electrode topology on the abdomen the success rate of fetal heart rate detection is significantly improved. The topology may be incorporated into a flat flexible cable which provides a comfortable and reproducible electrode arrangement allowing an untrained person to apply electrodes to a pregnant mother's abdomen.

Electrode and electrode positioning arrangement for abdominal fetal electrocardiogram detection

Fetal behavior is monitored by receiving ECG data from a set of electrodes attached to a material body. A waveform pre-processor identifies a succession of fetal ECG complex waveforms within the received data and a waveform processor determines differences in the processor succession of fetal ECG complex waveforms over time. An event logger determines from the determined differences a number of fetal movements during the period of time. Fetal spatial presentation and/or position within the uterus may also be determined from fetal ECG data acquired from a plurality of electrodes positioned on the maternal abdomen in a predetermined configuration. A number of fetal ECG complex waveforms are identified within the data, and each of the waveforms is compared with a set of predetermined fetal ECG complex templates ascribed to the predetermined electrode configuration to determine a template that best matches the identified fetal ECG waveforms.

Fetal surveillance

The spatial position of a fetus within the womb is determined and monitored through analysis of ECG waveform data received from a set of electrodes that are attached to a maternal abdomen in a predetermined configuration. The waveform is compared with a set of predefined stored templates to determine the position of the fetus. An event logger may determine the number of fetal movements during a period of time.

The present invention relates to apparatus for detecting the heart rate of a fetus. The apparatus includes at least two detectors for detecting heart beats of the fetus, each detector comprising at least two electrodes for detecting ECG signals. A processor, which is coupled to the detectors, is used to process the ECG signals received from each detector and determine the heart rate of the fetus.
