A system is provided for providing location-specific images to a mobile device for display. The system generally comprises three components: a mobile device having a screen, a position identification system (e.g., a GPS receiver) that determines the position of the mobile device, and a database containing location-specific images taken at various locations. Each location-specific image is associated with geographic coordinates of the location at which the image was taken. Based on the position of the mobile device as determined by the position identification system, a location-specific image is selected from the database and displayed on the screen of the mobile device. For example, when a user is using the mobile device as a car navigation system, a location-specific image of the user's destination location can be selected and displayed when the determined position of the mobile device comes within a certain distance from the geographic coordinates of the destination location.

Displaying location-specific images on a mobile device

A location of a mobile device can be determined. Common search queries can be provided that are associated with the location of the mobile device. Information associated with the common search queries can be transmitted to the mobile device automatically or upon user request. The information associated with the common search queries can include timing information, type of user information, user grouping, search type information, results of the common search queries, advertising relating to the common search queries, or links to additional information based on the current location.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for generating an online listing, such as a yellow pages listing, that includes information about an object, such as a business, and also includes at least one image of the structure containing the object. For example, the image may be a digital image of the store front of a business taken at a street view. Additionally, a user may select an image from a plurality of images that the user perceives as being an appropriate representative image for the business. Based on votes received a default representative image may be identified that is provided in response to a request for information about the business.

A location of a mobile device can be determined, along with a destination or direction of movement. Common search queries associated with the path of movement and locations along the path can be transmitted to the mobile device. An item may be analyzed to identify one or more geographic attributes that are associated with the item. Items are searchable using a geographic attribute to identify geographically related items. A search of a catalog of items identifies items having a geographic attribute shared by the geographic attribute at the focus of the search. Embodiments may enable a user to obtain an identified item in a commercial transaction. A display component can be configured to provide a map on which one or more of the identified items are shown. While not intuitive to users, using geography to search and identify geographically related items in a catalog can provide users with a unique way of looking at items and conducting commercial transactions for such items. Geographic attributes of individual items may also be displayed on a map.

Common search queries can be provided to a mobile device that are associated with a current location of a mobile device. Once a location of a mobile device is determined, common search queries associated with the location can be automatically transmitted to the mobile device. The queries can be used to update an auto-complete function for partial queries or strings entered by a user of the mobile device.

A method for providing a listing of common searches based on a location. The method includes receiving a location of a mobile computing device, generating a listing of common searches associated with the location, and transmitting the listing of common searches to the mobile computing device.
