A low head oxygenator system includes one or more chambers, each of the one or more chambers having an open top and one or more distribution plates, each distribution plate disposed over the open top of a corresponding one of the one or more chambers. Each of the one or more distribution plates has a predetermined number of orifices uniformly distributed within one or more zones of the respective distribution plate and no orifices in at least one remaining zone of the respective distribution plate. The oxygenator system further includes a container, disposed on top of the one or more distribution plates, and configured to allow a liquid contained in the container to flow through the orifices of the one or more distribution plates into the one or more chambers. Further, use of the distribution plate frees up the head-space region for a scrubbing insert configured to perform stripping.

Multi-stage oxygen absorber insert for concurrent stripping of carbon dioxide

A system, method, and apparatus for treating ship or barge ballast water. The system includes a ballast tank storing ballast water and one or more nozzles located in the ballast tank. One or more pumps supply a chemical into the ballast tank and water to the nozzles. The nozzles are strategically located in the ballast tank to circulate the ballast water and mix the chemical with the ballast water without removing the ballast water from the ballast tank to a separate mixing and treatment area located outside the tank either onboard or off of the ship or barge. A controller receives a signal from a flow sensor in the ballast tank to control the one or more pumps to enable operating the nozzles alternately and intermittently to circulate the ballast water and the mix the chemical with the ballast water to minimize energy consumption.

Method and apparatus for control of aquatic vertebrate and invertebrate invasive species

A hydropower conversion system is provided which uses a hydraulic gradient to accelerate water in a drive pipe. A valve is disposed in the drive pipe to interrupt the flow of water and thus create a temporary negative pressure within the drive pipe. A negative pressure relief device with a riser section is coupled to the drive pipe and is adapted to pull air but not water into the riser section when under negative pressure. A pneumatic device such as a power turbine is coupled to the negative pressure relief device.

The method of reducing the acidity in effluent discharges comprises charging the effluent with carbon dioxide, intermittently fluidizing and expanding at least one pulsed limestone bed with the charged effluent, treating the charged effluent with the limestone in the bed, displacing the limestone treated effluent with untreated charged effluent, stripping excess carbon dioxide from the effluent after treatment in the limestone bed, and discharging the limestone treated effluent. The method includes treating the charged effluent in the limestone beds for preferably at least two minutes, more preferably about 4 to 8 minutes. The step of intermittently fluidizing and expanding at least one pulsed limestone bed with the charged effluent includes generally concurrently intermittently fluidizing and expanding at least one other pulsed limestone bed with charged effluent, so that each limestone bed is expanded and fluidized alternately. The method also includes decreasing limestone bed sensitivity to limestone armoring by the intermittent fluidizing of the limestone beds and raising the pH of the treated effluent to at least 5. The mineral acidities in the effluent in excess of about 1,000 mg/l are neutralized and stripped CO.sub.2 can be vented into the atmosphere or into untreated or partially treated effluent. The charging of the effluent takes place in at least one stage, and the stripping of the CO.sub.2 takes place in at least one stage. The apparatus for the acid reduction method is also disclosed.
