A composition includes poly(4-methylpent-1-ene) and hollow glass microspheres. The composition has a density of less than 0.8 grams per cubic centimeter. Articles made from the composition and methods of making an article by injection molding the composition are also disclosed.

Poly (methylpentene) composition including hollow glass microspheres and method of using the same

The composition can include a polyamide, hollow glass microspheres having amino groups on at least a portion of their surfaces, and an impact modifier comprising at least one of polyolefin units or polydiene units and at least one of carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid anhydride functional groups. The composition can include a matrix of a polyamide modified with an impact modifier comprising at least one of polyolefin units or polydiene units and hollow glass microspheres dispersed in the matrix. At least some of the impact modifier and the polyamide share at least one of an amide bond, an imide bond, or a carboxyl-amine non-covalent bond, and at least some of the hollow glass microspheres and the matrix share at least one of an amide bond, an imide bond, or a carboxyl-amine noncovalent bond. The impact modifier is present in an amount of at least about 5 weight percent.

Polyolefin composition including hollow glass microspheres and method of using the same

A method for producing flexible, stretchable transparent and highly electrically conducting hybrid polymer films includes embedding electrically conductive electrospun nanofibers in solution cast dielectric polymer films. The electrically conductive nanofiber, or nanofiber structure, can be electrospun from a suitable polymer solution that contains a suitable amount of, for example, at least one conductive material. The polymer film portion can be formed from poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or polyimide. The flexible polymer film portion can be a transparent film, made from, for example, polycarbonate, polyurethane and/or cyclopolyolefin polymer compositions.

Flexible and electrically conductive polymer films and methods of making same

Heat-activatable siloxane-based adhesive articles include a substrate and a heat-activatable adhesive layer that includes a hot melt processable siloxane-based elastomeric polymer. The siloxane-based elastomeric polymer is a urea-containing segmented copolymer or an oxamide-containing segmented copolymer. The adhesive layers are substantially free of tackifying resins and are non-tacky and non-adhesive until heated to a temperature of at least 50 C. The adhesive layers may be optically clear and may have a microstructured surface.

Heat-activatable siloxane-based adhesives

Siloxane-based pipe coatings include a hot melt processable siloxane-based elastomeric polymer, and may optionally contain fillers and additives. The siloxane-based elastomeric polymer is a urea-containing segmented copolymer or an oxamide-containing segmented copolymer. The coatings are substantially free of tackifying resins and are non-tacky and non-adhesive until heated to a temperature of at least 50 C.

The present invention relates to a method for producing hybrid materials of thin polymer films with single, laminated, complete and/or partially embedded nanofibers to obtain products with unique functional properties. In one embodiment, the present invention involves a method that comprises the combination of two process technologies; a thin film solution casting process (tape casting, solvent casting) and an electrospinning process, in order to produce hybrid materials of thin polymer films with single, laminated, completely and/or partially embedded electrospun nanofibers to obtain products with unique functional properties. In another embodiment of the present invention, fibers and/or nanofibers of a chosen material are spun directly on to substrates of polymer solutions and/or monomers solutions, were such solutions are located on a carrier belt that is electrically and/or ionically conductive.

Hybrid manufacturing platform to produce multifunctional polymeric films

The present invention generally relates to implantable devices for producing insulin in diabetic animals and to methods of making same. Some embodiments include amphiphilic biomembranes for use in biological applications (e.g., as an alternative and/or supplemental insulin source). Some embodiments also include live insulin-producing cells contained within one or more amphiphilic membranes so as to prevent or diminish an immuno-response and/or rejection by the host.
