A sealpot for a combustion power plant includes a downcomer standpipe which receives solids of the combustion power plant, a bed including a first end and a second opposite end, the first end connected to the downcomer standpipe, a discharge standpipe disposed at the second opposite end of the bed, and an orifice plate disposed between the bed and the discharge standpipe separating the discharge standpipe from the bed. The orifice plate includes apertures disposed at a height above the bed which allow transport of fluidized solids and gas through the orifice plate.

Moving bed heat exchanger for circulating fluidized bed boiler

A solar power generation system includes a solar receiver disposed on a tower that receives radiant heat reflected from a field of solar collectors. The solar receiver includes an evaporator having a plurality of vertically oriented tubes to form a panel for receiving a fluid, such as water and/or steam, wherein the tubes have a rifled internal surface. The fluid within the tubes has a mass flow greater than 0.2&#xd7;10lb/hr/ftat a pressure in the range of 100-2850 psia, wherein radiant heat fluxes on the outside of the tubes exceed 185,00 but/hr/ft.

Solar steam generator

A continuous moving bed solar steam generation and storage system is provided to generate steam for production processes after loss or reduction of received solar energy. The system includes a receiverthat receives a flowing stream of particulate materialthat absorbs solar radiant energyas it passes through beams of the energyreceived from collectors. The heated stream of materialpasses into a first chamberto heat a tube bundletherein. Heat from the particulate materialis transferred to the bundle, evaporating the water to generate, reheat (RH) and/or superheat (SH) steam. The cooled materialpasses to a second chamber. The materialis drained from the second chamberand carried to a cyclonein the receiver. The materialdrains from the cycloneto complete the flow cycle.

Continuous moving bed solar steam generation system

A liquid-vapor separator for two-phase fluids in general and specifically a steam-water separator in a steam drum of a steam generator includes axial or radial spinner blades to create a centrifugal motion which causes liquid to be forced outward against the outer wall and the vapor to be concentrated in the center. Conical extraction skimmers systematically extract and discharge the liquid outwardly and downwardly through the side walls such that it impinges on an optional discharge screen surrounding the skimmers. The vapor flows out the top through a central opening and enters a secondary separator packed with crimped wire mesh encased in a perforated enclosure. The conical extraction skimmers include an outwardly protruding rim portion which forms an enlarged annular chamber between the rim and the underlying conical extraction skimmer. This forms a converging-diverging flow path out between skimmer sections and an outwardly extending ring forms a tortuous path. Inwardly extending extraction lips of varying size on the top of each skimmer enhance the liquid extraction.

Steam separating apparatus

A liquid level measuring system for the steam drum of a steam generator employs a plurality of bubblers spaced along the length of the drum to obtain a level profile. The steam pressure to the bubblers is supplied by tubes connected to the steam/water inlet space which has a pressure significantly higher than the steam space in the drum. Horizontal pressure taps on each bubbler transmit the pressure to pressure cells external to the drum where the bubbler pressure is compared to the pressure in the steam space. These reading can then be converted to liquid level readings.

Steam bubbler water level measurement

Conical extraction skimmers systematically extract and discharge the liquid outwardly and downwardly through the side walls such that it impinges on an oval discharge screen surrounding the skimmers. The vapor flows out the top through a central opening and enters a secondary separator packed with crimped wire mesh encased in a perforated enclosure.

A liquid-vapor separating drum has a screen dryer mounted in the upper portion between the primary separators and the vapor outlet. The screen dryer is constructed and mounted in such a way that only minimal access is required in the space above the screen dryer whereby the space can be minimized. A central pair of dryer rows is installed first when there is easy access. The two outside rows are then merely clipped in place which does not require any access. The bottoms of the rows are joined by drain panels which form a flow barrier and which serve to collect the liquid extracted by the screens. Hanging rods are used to support these drain panels and thereby indirectly support the bottoms of the rows. Vortex breakers in drain apertures of the drain panels improve the drainage rate.

Steam drying apparatus

Solids drained from a fluidized bed 10 pass to a conical transition section 36 and through valve 50 to a pneumatic transport line 46. The flow of solids is controlled by controllably 56 introducing air 58 into the transition section 36.

Solids feeder

A fluidized bed reactor (10) wherein a sulfur-containing particulate fuel is combusted or gasified in a fluidized bed (30) of particulate material, which includes a sulfur oxide absorbent, is provided with a solids cooling apparatus (40) adapted to receive particulate material draining from the bed and cool same via indirect heat transfer to a cooling fluid.

Fluid bed combustor and apparatus for cooling particulate solids

A fluidizing feed apparatus (20) for supplying particulate material to a fluidized bed furnace (12) having a housing (22) which defines a chamber which is divided by a perforated distribution plate (24) into a gas plenum (26) beneath the plate and a particulate fluidizing plenum (28) above the plate. Conveying gas is fed under pressure to the gas plenum to pass upwardly therefrom through the perforated distribution plate. The upwardly directed conveying gas fluidizes the particulate material so as to establish a discrete bed (60) of fluidized particulate material superadjacent the distribution plate (24) and a splash zone (70) thereabove. Transport conduits (14) open into the splash zone (70) at a selected distance above the surface (65) of the discrete bed (60) to receive particulate material and conveying gas therefrom for transport to the fluidized bed (16) of the furnace (12). An orificing nipple body (82) is replaceably mounted to at least one transport conduit (14) and acts as a throttling device to control the flow of particulate material therethrough relative to the flow of particulate material through the remaining transport conduits.

Apparatus for fluidizing a particulate material in a conveying gas

In a forced steam generator (10) having orifice assemblies (36) positioned in the inlet of each tube (28) lining the walls of the furnace (12). The orifice assemblies are explosively (46) expanded into each tube. In order to permit the tubes to be completely drainable even when located in a portion of a tube having a horizontal component thereto, the orifice (60) is located at the very bottom of the tube.
