Use of benzotropolone derivatives as UV absorbers and antioxidants and their use in sunscreens and/or cosmetic compositions

Disclosed are merocyanine derivatives which correspond to the formula (I), wherein L, Land Lindependently of each other are hydrogen; or Land Lmay be linked together to form a carbocyclic ring; Rand Rindependently of each other are CN; &#x2014;COR; &#x2014;COOR; &#x2014;CONRR; C-Calkyl; C-Calkenyl; C-Calkinyl; C-Ccycloalkyl; C-Ccycloalkenyl; C-Caralkyl; C-Cheteroalkyl; C-Ccycloheteroalkyl; C-Cheteroaralkyl; C-Caryl; C-Calkylcarbonylamino-C-Caryl; C-Cheteroaryl; or &#x2014;X&#x2014;Sil; n is a number from 1 to 4; the meaning of Rand Rdepends on the definition of n. The compounds are useful as UV absorbers for cosmetic applications. 

Merocyanine derivatives

The present invention relates to specific acylhydrazone compounds, their use as oxidation catalysts and to a process for removing stains and soil on textiles and hard surfaces. The compounds are substituted with a specific cyclic ammonium group adjacent to the acyl group. Further aspects of the invention are compositions or formulations comprising such compounds.
