An ink set has two or more aqueous pigment-based inks, each of which has 75-95 weight %, a) one or more pigment colorants, and b) one or more water-miscible humectants that are present in a total amount of at least 1 weight % and up to and including 20 weight %, and consist essentially of compounds, each of which has a carbon atom to oxygen atom ratio of at least 1.0:1.0 and only two hydroxy groups. The weight % amounts of water and the b) water-miscible humectants are based on the total weight of each aqueous pigment-based ink. The aqueous pigment-based inks in the ink set can be used individual or in combination to provide monochrome or polychrome inkjet-printed images on various ink-receptive media and using various inkjet printing equipment and methods.

Ink set for inkjet printing

A flexible inkjet-printed article is prepared by: A') providing an ink receptive medium having a substrate and an aqueous-based ink-receptive layer. This layer has: (a) a water-soluble salt of a multivalent metal cation; (b) one or both of a polyvinyl alcohol and a polyvinyl amine (or a copolymer derived from a vinyl alcohol and a vinyl amine) at 0.5-30 weight %; and optionally, (c) a crosslinking agent and (d) silica particles. At least one aqueous pigment-based ink is deposited directly on the aqueous-based ink-receptive layer, each having: a) an anionically-stabilized pigment colorant; and b) a water-miscible humectant at 1-20 weight %, each having a carbon to oxygen atom ratio of &#x2265;1.0:1.0 and only two hydroxy groups. After drying, a functional layer with adhesive composition is formed on the inkjet-printed image and a flexible material is laminated to the functional layer, to form a flexible inkjet printed article.

Method of preparing laminated article

Inkjet printing is carried out to provide monochrome or polychrome inkjet-printed images. An ink-receptive medium is provided with a substrate with an aqueous-based ink-receptive layer disposed thereon. The aqueous-based ink-receptive layer has: (a) one or more water-soluble salts of a multivalent metal cation in an amount of 0.6-49 weight %; (b) one or both of a polyvinyl alcohol and a polyvinyl amine (or a copolymer of a vinyl alcohol and vinyl amine) in a total amount of 0.5-30 weight %; and optionally, (c) a crosslinking agent and (d) silica particles. One or more aqueous pigment-based inks are inkjet printed onto this aqueous-based ink-receptive layer, each ink comprising: a) one or more anionically-stabilized pigment colorants; b) one or more water-miscible humectants that are present in a total amount of 1-20 weight % and each having a carbon atom to oxygen atom ratio of at least 1.0:1.0 and only two hydroxy groups.

Method for inkjet printing

An inkjet-printed article has an ink receptive medium with a substrate and an aqueous-based ink-receptive layer disposed thereon. The aqueous-based ink-receptive layer includes: (a) a water-soluble salt of a multivalent metal cation at 0.6-49 weight %; (b) one or both of a polyvinyl alcohol and a polyvinyl amine (or a copolymer derived from a vinyl alcohol and a vinyl amine) at 0.5-30 weight %; and optionally, (c) a crosslinking agent or (d) silica particles. The article also has an inkjet-printed image disposed on the aqueous-based ink-receptive layer, provided from one or more aqueous pigment-based inks, each of which has a) an anionically-stabilized pigment colorant; b) one or more water-miscible humectants at a total amount of 1-20 weight %, each of which has a carbon atom to oxygen atom ratio of at least 1.0:1.0 and only two hydroxy groups.

Article prepared by inkjet printing

A flexible inkjet printed article includes an ink receptive medium comprising a substrate and an aqueous-based ink-receptive layer. The aqueous-based ink-receptive layer has: (a) a water-soluble salt of a multivalent metal cation; (b) one or more of a polyvinyl alcohol and a polyvinyl amine (or a copolymer derived from a vinyl alcohol and a vinyl amine) at 0.5-30 weight %; and optionally, (c) a crosslinking agent or (d) silica particles. An inkjet-printed image is disposed on the ink-receptive layer, provided from one or more aqueous pigment-based inks, each having: a) one or more anionically-stabilized pigment colorants; b) one or more water-miscible humectants at 1-20 weight %, each of which has a carbon atom to oxygen atom ratio of at least 1.0:1.0 and only two hydroxy groups. A functional layer comprising an adhesive composition disposed on the inkjet-printed image; and a flexible polymeric film or paper adhered to the functional layer.

Laminated article

Colorless or colored coatings can be ink jetted onto a substrate using an aqueous particle-free inkjet ink composition that has a viscosity of less than 5 centipoises, and that includes a combination of an anionic polyether polyurethane and an anionic acrylic polymer or anionic styrene-acrylic polymer, in a total amount of less than or equal to 20 weight %. The composition can be colorless (free of colorants) or it can contain a suitable colorant to provide a color image. The composition also includes a defoamer that has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value of at least 3 and up to and including 5, and which is present in an amount of at least 0.15 weight % and up to and including 1 weight %. Such composition can be used in inkjet printing methods including recirculation apparatus and methods, and can be provided as part of an ink set.

Non-foaming aqueous particle-free inkjet ink compositions

Colorless coatings can be ink jetted onto part or all of colored images as spaced colorless drops to provide a colorless image over at least 50% of colored areas of the colored image and on a predetermined areal percentage of non-colored areas of the colored image. The aqueous colorless inkjet ink composition has a viscosity of less than 0.005 N-sec at 25&#xb0; C., and comprises an anionic polyether polyurethane and an anionic acrylic or styrene-acrylic polymer, each having an acid number of at least 50, and such polymeric materials are present in unique amounts. Use of the aqueous colorless inkjet ink composition can be adjusted to provide increased gloss on the colored image in either or both of the colored area or non-colored areas.

Method of inkjet printing a colorless ink

An aqueous organic pigment dispersion contains a green copper phthalocyanine pigment and an azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment. It also includes an organic pigment dispersant at 40 weight % to 100 weight %, based on the sum of the weights of the organic pigments. This aqueous organic pigment dispersion can be combined with a humectant to provide an aqueous green inkjet ink composition. The weight ratio of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment to the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment is from 1:1 to 10:1. The median particle diameter of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment is less than 85 nm. At least 95% of the total particles of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment have a particle diameter of less than 150 nm. The aqueous green inkjet ink compositions can be used in various inkjet printing methods.

Preparation of aqueous green inkjet compositions

An aqueous organic pigment dispersion contains a green copper phthalocyanine pigment and an azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment. It also includes an organic pigment dispersant at 40 weight % to 100 weight %, based on the sum of the weights of the organic pigments. Preparation of aqueous green dispersions

Aqueous green inkjet ink compositions are prepared from aqueous organic pigment dispersions for use in various inkjet printing methods. In particular, these methods provide a green image or expanded color gamut for other inkjet printed colors. The aqueous organic pigment dispersion contains a green copper phthalocyanine pigment and an azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment and an organic pigment dispersant. The weight ratio of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment to the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment is from 1:1 to 10:1. The median particle diameter of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment is less than 85 nm. At least 95% of the total particles of each of the green copper phthalocyanine pigment and the azo-coupled &#x3b2;-ketoamide pigment have a particle diameter of less than 150 nm.

An OLED device comprises a cathode, an anode, and located therebetween a light-emitting layer containing a host material and a tris-C^N-cyclometallated complex of Ir or Rh wherein at least one of the ligands comprises a substituted quinazoline moiety. A process for printing an image includes printing a substrate with an aqueous inkjet ink and drying the printed image with a near-infrared drying system, wherein the inkjet ink is a yellow or magenta inkjet ink and comprises a yellow or magenta colorant and a distinct near-infrared absorbing compound. Inkjet ink sets for use with an inkjet printing system employing a near-infrared drying system in the process include at least a black ink and a yellow ink, wherein the yellow ink comprises a yellow colorant and dispersed nanoparticulate colloidal silica at a concentration of from 0.1 to about 10 wt %, and the black ink comprises a black colorant and dispersed nanoparticulate colloidal silica at a concentration of from 0 wt. % to at most &#xbd; of the wt. % of the dispersed nanoparticulate colloidal silica in the yellow ink. Various embodiments provide a process for inkjet printing and drying inks with improved absorption in the near-IR region of the spectrum for improved drying performance of aqueous, hypsochromic inks, and an inkjet ink set with improved balanced near-IR drying of black and yellow inkjet inks.

Inkjet printing ink set

A process for printing inkjet ink and other aqueous compositions through silicon-based microelectromechanical printer structures is disclosed that suppresses the normal dissolution of the silicon device components in contact with the aqueous composition. Inkjet ink and other aqueous compositions used in the process contain the soluble salts of organic aromatic azo compounds in sufficient concentrations to inhibit silicon corrosion. The useful lifetime of microelectromechanical fluidic devices based on silicon fabrication is extended.
