A ceramic honeycomb body comprising a peripheral skin layer and a fiber extending around the outer periphery of a honeycomb core, the fiber embedded in the peripheral skin layer is described. A method of making a honeycomb body having a fiber extending around the outer periphery of a honeycomb core and embedded in the peripheral skin layer is also described.

A ceramic honeycomb body having intersecting walls that form channels extending axially from a first end face to a second end face and plugs to seal the channels at least at one of the first end face and the second end face. The plugs include a first active component, such as a catalytically active component or a chemically active component, of the plug structure, wherein the intersecting walls comprise no first active component and optionally have a second active component of the wall structure or disposed on the walls. Included are methods of making the ceramic honeycomb body having plugs of the first active component and walls with no first active component.

A method for base-coating a porous ceramic catalyst support includes coating the support with a passivation coating via vacuum infiltration, and subsequently exposing the support to a microwave field to dry the coating and form a polymerized film. The method further includes coating the support with a catalyst coating or washcoat, and subsequently exposing the support to a second microwave field, thereby removing water from the catalyst coating or washcoat.
