A copper-doped glass formed by placing a target glass in a container, surrounding the target glass with a powder mixture comprised of SiOpowder and CuS powder, wherein the SiOpowder and the CuS powder are mixed according to the formula (SiO)(CuS), where 0.01&#x3c;x&#x3c;0.1, and heated to a temperature of between 800&#xb0; C. and 1150&#xb0; C. for a duration of between 1 and 10 hours.

Method of manufacture of copper-doped glasses

A method of making a copper-doped glass comprising placing a target glass in a container, placing a target glass in a container, surrounding the target glass with a powder mixture comprised of fused silica (SiO) powder and copper sulfide (CuS) powder, such that both the target glass and the surrounding powder are contained in the container, and heating the container and the target glass and the surrounding powder mixture to a temperature of between 800&#xb0; C. and 1150&#xb0; C.

Compositions including additive manufacturing materials incorporating radiological detection materials therein are provided. Also provided are apparatus and methods, which may be utilized to monitor and measure nuclear criticality events, and determine if personnel have been exposed to ionizing radiation. The compositions, apparatus, and methods beneficially improve accuracy in assessing radiation exposure, particularly neutron exposure, and reduce degradation of the radiological detection materials.

Copper-doped glasses and methods of manufacture

An optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimeter system. An OSL reader configured to produce data indicative of a radiation exposure, one or more OSL dosimeters fabricated from a thermoluminescent material, a light stimulation source configured to stimulate the OSL dosimeter to produce luminescence emissions, and a light-detection system that measures the intensity of such luminescence emissions and converts the electrical signal to a binary string that can be processed by an appropriately programmed computer configured to analyze data from the reader and produce data indicative of an extent of radiation exposure. Dose information is obtained without requiring heating of the dosimeter. The dosimeter can be interrogated multiple times with minimal loss of dose information.
