A novel dispenser for the release of insect attractants has been invented for baiting insect traps. The dispenser is comprised of a flexible support coated with a polyvinylchloride (PVC)-insect attractant mixture. A PVC/twine dispenser has been found to be particularly effective for the release of the gypsy moth pheromone, (&plus;)-disparlure.

Certain esters of 4(and 5)-chloro-trans-2-methylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid act in a dual and advantageous capacity when added to the Mediterranean fruit fly attractant, trimedlure. They greatly reduce or eliminate crystallization of the solid trimedlure isomers that occurs on storage or use during cool weather and they significantly extend the attractive activity of trimedlure.

Additives useful as crystallization inhibitors and activity extenders

The racemate of 1-methylbutyldecanoate is synthesized and found to be a powerful attractant under field conditions for male bagworm moths. It is also found to suppress or inhibit completely the mating of female bagworm moths when applied to trees and shrubs in an effective mating suppressant or inhibiting amount.
