A polymer composition for use in a hot melt adhesive comprises at least one semierystalline, low molecular weight (LMW) propylene-based polymer; at least one essentially amorphous, high molecular weight (HMW) propylene-based polymer; and at least one essentially amorphous, LMW propylene-based polymer. A hot melt adhesive composition further contains a tackifier, a plasticizer, an antioxidant, and optionally a wax, a filler, a colorant, a UV absorber, another polymer, or combinations thereof. The hot melt adhesive is useful for a variety of industrial applications where bonding of low surface energy substrates is encountered, including disposable nonwoven hygienic articles, labeling and other assembly applications. Particularly preferred applications include nonwoven disposable diaper and feminine sanitary napkin construction, diaper and adult incontinent brief elastic attachment, diaper and napkin core stabilization, diaper backsheet lamination, industrial filter material conversion, and surgical gown and surgical drape assemblies. The composition demonstrates improved peel strength while maintaining very good creep resistance.

Hot melt adhesive compositions based on propylene-based polymers and methods for using same

A laminate comprises a primary substrate and a secondary substrate mated with the primary substrate through contact with a hot melt adhesive. The hot melt adhesive comprises a polymer blend based on a low molecular weight semicrystalline propylene based polymer and a high molecular weight essentially amorphous propylene based polymer, both of which are prepared by using single-site catalysts. The composition further contains a compatible tackifier, a plasticizer, an antioxidant, and optionally a wax, a filler, a colorant, a UV absorber, another polymer, or combinations thereof. Particularly preferred applications include nonwoven disposable diaper and feminine sanitary napkin construction, diaper and adult incontinent brief elastic attachment, diaper and napkin core stabilization, diaper backsheet lamination, industrial filter material conversion, and surgical gown and surgical drape assemblies.

Laminates made using hot melt adhesives based on a blend of propylene polymers made using single-site catalysts

A method for making a laminate comprises the steps of applying a hot melt adhesive composition in a molten state to a primary substrate and mating a secondary substrate to the first substrate by contacting the secondary substrate with the adhesive composition. Methods for using hot melt adhesives based on a blend of propylene polymers made using single-site catalysts

A hot melt adhesive composition comprises a polymer blend based on a low molecular weight semicrystalline propylene based polymer and a high molecular weight essentially amorphous propylene based polymer, both of which are prepared by using single-site catalysts. The composition further contains a compatible tackifier, a plasticizer, an antioxidant, and optionally a wax, a filler, a colorant, a UV absorber, another polymer, or combinations thereof. The hot melt composition has low viscosity ranging from 500 mPa&#xb7;s to 35,000 mPa&#xb7;s at 177&#xb0; C. and is useful for a variety of industrial applications where bonding of low surface energy substrates is encountered, including disposable nonwoven hygienic articles, labeling and other assembly applications. Hot melt adhesive composition based on a blend of propylene copolymers prepared using single-site catalysts and methods for using same

A hot melt sealant and foam-in-place gasket composition based on a rubber such as ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) and/or ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) and at least one semicrystalline olefinic polymer. The hot melt composition includes the rubber or a blend of rubbers in an amount of 5% to 50% by weight, at least one semicrystalline olefinic polymer in an amount of 5% to 40% by weight, at least one amorphous poly-&#x3b1;-olefin (APAO) polymer in an amount of 0% to 70% by weight, a compatible tackifier in an amount of 0% to 50% by weight, and a plasticizer in an amount of at least 30% by weight. The composition is particularly useful for foamed gasket applications as a replacement for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) coated foam tape.

Hot melt sealant and foam-in-place gasketing material

A hot melt desiccant matrix composition has an organic binder and an absorbent material as components thereof. The organic binder includes about 10% to 80% by weight of a propylene based poly-&#x3b1;-olefin polymer having a melting point or a glass transition temperature less than 180&#xb0; C., a density in the range of 0.85 to 0.95 g/cc or a blend of poly-&#x3b1;-olefin polymers; about 5% to 70% by weight of a plasticizer having a flash point equal to or greater than 180&#xb0; C.; about 0% to 50% by weight a compatible tackifier; and a stabilizer in the amount of about 0% to 5% by weight. The absorbent component may be a water/moisture absorbing material, or a VOC absorbing material, or a blend of water/moisture absorbing and VOC absorbing materials. The absorbent material is selected from absorbing materials including, but not limited to, silica gels, activated carbons, silica alumina, calcium sulfate, calcium oxide, natural zeolites and molecular sieves and the mixtures thereof. The ratios of organic binder component to absorbent component range from about 30% by weight to about 80% by weight.

Hot melt desiccant matrix composition based on plasticized polyolefin binder

A polyolefin based hot melt adhesive composition having improved heat resistance includes a blend of about 5% to 50% by weight of a glassy semicrystalline poly-alpha-olefin polymer, about 5% to 70% by weight of a soft or rubbery polymer, about 5% to 65% by weight of a tackifier, about 0% to 3% by weight of a stabilizer and optionally a wax and/or plasticizer. The composition can also contain other additives and fillers to further modify its properties. An application process for the adhesive composition and various articles assembled therewith are also disclosed. The composition is particularly suited for applications where complicated bonding needs exist that involve bonding of multiple components or parts fabricated from dissimilar materials ranging from steel to plastic to fabrics.

Polyolefin based hot melt adhesive having improved heat resistance

A hot melt adhesive composition is based on an isotactic polypropylene random copolymer (RCP). The composition contains about 4%-50% by weight of the RCP copolymer, about 20%-65% by weight of a compatible tackifier, about 0%-40% by weight of a plasticizer, about 0%-3% by weight of a stabilizer, about 0%-40% by weight of a wax, about 0%-60% by weight of an atactic poly-&#x3b1;-olefin (APAO), and about 0%-40% by weight of a secondary polymer. The adhesive composition may be used in a number of applications such as, for example, in disposable nonwoven hygienic articles, paper converting, flexible packaging, wood working, carton and case sealing, labeling and other assembly applications.

Hot melt adhesive composition based on a random copolymer of isotactic polypropylene and a secondary polymer

A hot melt adhesive composition is based on an isotactic polypropylene random copolymer (RCP). The composition contains about 4%&#x2013;50% by weight of the RCP copolymer, about 20%&#x2013;65% by weight of a compatible tackifier, about 0%&#x2013;40% by weight of a plasticizer, about 0%&#x2013;3% by weight of a stabilizer, about 0%&#x2013;40% by weight of a wax, and optionally about 0%&#x2013;60% by weight of an atactic poly-&#x3b1;-olefin (APAO). A hot melt adhesive composition based on a polymer blend of syndiotactic polypropylene (SPP) and atactic poly-&agr;-olefin (APAO). The composition contains about 15%-80% by weight of the SPP/APAO blend, about 15%-65% by weight of a compatible tackifier, about 0%-35% by weight of a plasticizer, about 0%-3% by weight of a stabilizer, and optionally, about 0%-30% by weight of a wax. The adhesive composition may be used in a number of applications such as, for example, in disposable nonwoven hygienic articles, paper converting, flexible packaging, wood working, carton and case sealing, labeling and other assembly applications.

Hot melt adhesive composition based on a blend of amorphous poly-&agr;-olefin and syndiotactic polypropylene

A water-sensitive hot melt adhesive composition based on sulfonated branched copolyester polymers for use with articles such as paper products, disposable nonwoven products, tapes, labels and packaging materials. The adhesive composition includes about 10% to about 90%, by weight, of a sulfonated polyester copolymer or a blend of one or more sulfonated polyester polymers; about 0% to about 80%, by weight, of a tackifying resin; about 0% to about 40%, by weight, of a compatible plasticizer; about 5% to about 50% by weight of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight greater than 2000 and a melting point greater than 50&deg; C; and about 0% to about 3% by weight of one or more antioxidant. The adhesive maintains the article in an assembled condition by providing adequate adhesive bond strength during normal use, but dissolves in the presence of water thereby permitting the article to be recycled or otherwise disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Sulfonated copolyester based water-dispersible hot melt adhesive

A flexible polyolefin-based hot melt adhesive composition having a variety of end uses, particularly in bonding polyethylene and polypropylene films, nonwoven fabrics and elastic attachment applications in nonwoven disposable articles. The composition includes a flexible polyolefin polymer or a blend of flexible polyolefin polymers, a tackifier resin, a plasticizer, and optionally a wax and a stabilizer. The preferred flexible polyolefin polymer has a melt flow rate greater than 5 g/10 min. and a density between 0.86 to 0.90 g/cm,. The hot melt adhesive composition provides a novel combination of desirable properties including good adhesion to a variety of substrates, low viscosity, good heat stability and oil resistance. The adhesive can be applied using common application techniques such as extruding or spraying.

Hot melt adhesive based on semicrystalline flexible polyolefins

An elastomeric-based hot melt adhesive composition having a variety of end uses, particularly in construction and elastic attachment applications on nonwoven disposable articles. The composition includes an elastomeric rubber polymer or a mixture of elastomeric rubber polymers together with a semicrystalline olefinic polymer or a mixture of semicrystalline olefinic polymers, a tackifier resin, a plasticizer, a wax and a stabilizer. The preferred elastomeric rubber polymer is an ethylene-propylene rubber copolymer (EPR) and/or an ethylene-propylene diene monomer rubber terpolymer (EPDM). The hot melt adhesive composition can be applied using common application techniques such as extruding or spraying.

A water sensitive hot melt adhesive composition based on polyalkyleneimine copolymers for use with articles such as paper products, disposable nonwoven products, tapes, labels and packaging materials. By varying the amount of copolymer included in the composition as well as by varying the chain structure and the ratio of soluble versus insoluble repeating units in the copolymer, an adhesive may be formulated to modify the degree of solubility from 100% to 0% soluble in water and/or other performance characteristics. The adhesive composition includes about 10% to about 70%, by weight, of a polyalkyleneimine copolymer or a blend of one or more polyalkyleneimine copolymers; about 0% to about 70%, by weight, of a tackifying resin; about 10% to about 70%, by weight, of a compatible plasticizer; and about 0.1% to about 3% by weight of one or more antioxidant. The adhesive maintains the article in an assembled condition by providing adequate adhesive bond strength during normal use, but dissolves in the presence of water thereby permitting the article to be recycled or otherwise disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
