A system and method for identifying the accessibility of a base station in a communication system. The system includes at least one Closed Subscriber Group (CSG)-Open (hybrid) base station. The base station can apply a base station identifier, such as a CSG identifier, as a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) mask to a first broadcast channel communication and can include the base station identifier in the payload of, or as a CRC mask applied to, a second broadcast channel communication. A mobile station can determine from the base station identifier in the first broadcast communication if the mobile station is a member authorized closed access to the base station. The mobile station can determine from the base station identifier in second first broadcast communication if the mobile station is a non-member authorized open access to the base station.

Methods and apparatus to identify the accessibility of base stations in communication systems

A system and method for identifying the accessibility of femto base stations in a communication system. The system and method includes a plurality of macro base stations, open-access femto base stations and femto base stations with different subscriber groups. At least one of the base stations includes a transmitter configured to apply a base station identifier, such as a closed subscription group identifier, as a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) mask to XOR (exclusive OR) the CRC of a broadcast channel communication or an input to generate a scrambling sequence to the broadcast channel communication.

Methods and apparatus to identify the accessibility of femto-base stations in communication systems

An apparatus and method for configuring Enhanced Multicast and Broadcast Service (E-MBS) Scheduling Intervals (MSIs) in a communication system are provided. The method includes selecting a number N of MSIs, and selecting a periodicity of each of the N MSIs. By selecting a number N of MSIs and a periodicity of each of the N MSIs, a communication system is able to more efficiently decode E-MBS data.

Methods for efficient configuration of control channel transmission in wireless systems

For use in a wireless network, a femtocell base station in communication with at least one first mobile station is provided. The femtocell base station is configured adjust a resource of the femtocell base station to mitigate interference at a second mobile station. In certain embodiments, the femtocell base station is configured to coordinate a handover of the at least one first mobile station from the femtocell base station to a neighboring base station. A wireless communication network comprising a plurality of paging controllers capable of communication with a plurality of base stations within a coverage area of the network is provided. At least one of the plurality of paging controllers is configured to assign one or more paging identifications (PG IDs) to a subscriber station within a paging area when the subscriber station requests to enter idle mode, wherein each of the one or more PG IDs is associated with a paging offset, and transmit the one or more PG IDs to a base station in communication with the subscriber station. The subscriber station only monitors the PG ID having a shortest paging offset among the one or more PG IDs.

An automatic repeat request (ARQ) receiver is provided. The ARQ receiver comprises a receiver configured to receive a plurality of ARQ blocks. The ARQ receiver further comprises a processor configured to generate a feedback message configured to provide status of the plurality of ARQ blocks. The feedback message comprises an acknowledgement sequence number (ACK_SN) field and a flag field. The processor is configured to provide a first value in the flag field if the feedback message contains only the ACK_SN field and the flag field. The processor is also configured to provide a second value in the flag field if the feedback message contains one or more fields in addition to the ACK_SN field and the flag field.

Method and system for generating and reading an automatic repeat request (ARQ) status feedback message

A subscriber station can efficiently determine an accessible base station by scanning a subset of base stations based on an optimized list received from a serving base station. The subscriber station includes a white list that contains information regarding a number of closed subscriber group (CSG) base stations to which the subscriber station is subscribed. The subscriber station can transmit a request message that includes one or more of: indication of whether the detected identifier of the femto base station is in the whitelist or not; and its location information. In response, the base station can send a message that includes the nearby femtocells and whether the femtocell is accessible or inaccessible to the subscriber station. The femto base station can be designed to be in transmission off mode when none of its subscribers is in its coverage. The serving base station can select a set of the accessible femtocells to the subscriber station, and request the selected femtocells to monitor an uplink signaling of the subscriber station so that the femtocell can be awaken when the femtocell is in transmission off mode or be aware that the subscriber station is in proximity, if the uplink signaling is detected.

Methods and apparatus to support base station detection and selection in multi-tier wireless networks

In a multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) enabled mesh network, streams for transmitting data from a node to a destination node are controlled based on next hop latency and available stream capacity at neighboring, next hop nodes. Routing information maintained and dynamically updated at each node includes latency information associated with each next hop for transmission from the node to a given destination node and current available stream capacity for such next hop nodes. A controller at the node utilizes that information to select one or more next hop nodes to which the data is forwarded as well as to determine a number of streams that may be initiated with each selected next hop node.

A method for generating a superframe preamble for a superframe in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing network is provided. The superframe preamble comprises a plurality of symbols. For a first one of the symbols, a first set of subcarriers of a carrier is allocated to a first broadcast channel, with the first set of subcarriers distributed over substantially the entire carrier. For the first one of the symbols, a second set of subcarriers of the carrier is allocated to a second broadcast channel.

A method for synchronizing overlapping cells covered by different base stations include obtaining a propagation delay between a first base station and a second base station, scheduling by the first base station a selected one of first users located in a first cell covered by the first base station to transmit a first data packet which is a part of a transmission data frame, transmitting at the selected one the first users a transmission offset indicating the difference in a time domain between the beginning of the transmission data frame and the first data packet, in response to the reception of the first data packet, recording a reception offset at a selected one of second users located in a second cell covered by the second base station, the reception offset indicating the difference in time domain between the beginning of a reception data frame and the first data packet, transmitting at the selected one of the second users the reception offset to the second base station, calculating at the second base station a frame slide by adding the transmission offset and the propagation delay, and subtracting the reception offset, and synchronizing the first cell and the second cell based upon the calculated frame slide.

Enhanced coexistence beacon protocol (ECBP) for precise intercell synchronization of overlapping wireless base stations

A first base station and mobile station are capable of mitigating interference resulting from communications from a second base station. The base station can determine if at least a portion of a paging slot overlaps with an available interval (AI) of the second base station in which the second base station transmits. The first base station adjusts an occurrence of the paging slot such that the paging slot overlaps and/or occurs within an unavailable interval (UAI) of the second base station wherein the base station does not transmit or transmits with limited resources. The mobile station also can determine if at least a portion of a listening slot overlaps with the AI and, using the same procedure that the first base station uses to recalculate the paging slot, recalculates the listening slot such that the listening slot overlaps and/or occurs within the UAI of the LDC mode.
