In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for coexistence management. A first access point operating in an unlicensed frequency band using a first RAT receives, from a second access point operating in the unlicensed frequency band using a second RAT, information regarding operation of the second access point in the unlicensed frequency band. It is determined, using the received information, that the first access point or the second access point is using a first share of the unlicensed frequency band that is below a predetermined threshold, indicating an imbalance of usage between the first RAT and the second RAT. A transmission parameter of the first access point for operating in the unlicensed frequency band using the first RAT is adjusted according to the determination. The first access point transmits the one or more packets using the adjusted transmission parameter, to cause the first access point or the second access point to use an updated share of the unlicensed frequency band that is closer to the predetermined threshold than the first share.

Adjusting transmission parameters to support coexistence fairness

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for coexistence management. A first access point is scheduled a time to begin transmission of a packet to a user device in an unlicensed frequency band using a first RAT. The time to begin the transmission is scheduled to avoid transmission overlap with a second access point using a second RAT in the unlicensed frequency band, and scheduled according to information from the second access point regarding operation in the unlicensed frequency band using the second RAT. One of the first and second RATs includes one of a WLAN RAT or a LTE based RAT, and another of the first and second RATs includes a remaining one of the WLAN RAT or the LTE based RAT, in one or more embodiments. The first access point receives updated information regarding operation in the unlicensed frequency band using the second RAT. Using the updated information, an updated time for the first access point to begin the transmission using the first RAT is determined, the updated time determined to avoid transmission overlap with the second RAT in the unlicensed frequency band. The first access point transmits, according to the determined updated time, the packet in the unlicensed frequency band using the first RAT.

Coexistence management via scheduling

The disclosure is directed systems and methods for providing robust coexistence for LAA-LTE, including physical layer enhancements and options to support robust coexistence for LAA-LTE, and deployment and evaluation scenarios and methods.

Licensed-assisted access (LAA) using long term evolution (LTE) protocols

Systems and methods allow LAA LTE equipment to coexist with other services in the unlicensed band such as WIFI or WLAN services. Systems and methods use LTE reference signals in the unlicensed spectrum that are not continuous and can be interrupted by a WIFI signal or other services in the unlicensed band or use a dynamic LAA ON burst or window to provide the LTE reference signals in some embodiments. The systems and methods can detect the presence of LTE signals using a one or more of a number of techniques.

Dynamic LTE signal detection

A method includes detecting, using a WiFi access point, channel use data indicating traffic on a plurality of channels of an unlicensed LTE band in a wireless network. The method further includes providing the channel use data to a Long Term Evolution (LTE) access point. The method further includes selecting, using the LTE access point, a channel for use in transmitting data by the LTE access point from among the plurality of channels based on the channel use data from the WiFi access point. The method further includes providing, from the LTE access point, an indication of an upcoming transmission configured to transmit data on the channel to the WiFi access point. The method further includes broadcasting one or more messages from the WiFi access point to one or more WiFi nodes, the one or more messages configured to prevent the WiFi nodes from transmitting on the channel.

A baseband processing module according to the present invention includes a multi-path scanner module. The multi-path scanner module is operable to receive timing and scrambling code information regarding an expected multi-path signal component of a WCDMA signal. Then, the multi-path scanner module is operable to identify a plurality of multi-path signal components of the WCDMA signal by descrambling, despreading and correlating a known symbol pattern of/with a baseband RX signal within a search window. The multi-path scanner module is operable to determine timing information for the plurality of multi-path signal components of the WCDMA signal found within the search window and to pass this information to a coupled rake receiver combiner module.

A wireless communication device processes N Radio Frequency (RF) bursts contained within N slots of a digital communications time divided frame, wherein N is a positive integer greater than one. The wireless communication device includes an RF front end, a baseband processor, and an equalizer module. The RF front end is operable to receive the plurality of received RF bursts and to convert the RF bursts to corresponding baseband signals. The baseband processor is operable to receive the baseband signals, to pre-equalization process the baseband signals to produce processed baseband signals, and to post-equalization process soft decisions. The equalizer is operable to equalize the processed baseband signals to produce the soft decisions. These RF bursts may be contained in adjacent slots or, in non-adjacent slots, or in a combination of adjacent slots and non-adjacent slots.

Pipeline architecture for multi-slot wireless link processing

Equalizer training method using re-encoded bits and known training sequences. A multi-branch equalizer processing module is operable to cancel interference associated with received radio frequency (RF) burst(s) (e.g., using at least a first equalizer processing branch and a second equalizer processing branch). The first equalizer processing branch is operable to be trained based upon known training sequences and to equalize the received RF burst. The second equalizer processing branch uses at least partially re-encoded data bits to train linear equalizer(s) within the second equalizer processing branch. A buffer may initially store the received RF burst(s), which are retrieved and equalized by the second equalizer processing branch once the linear equalizer(s) are trained. The cooperation operation of these and other various components allows interfering signals to be cancelled and for more accurate processing of the received RF bursts to occur.

Equalize training method using re-encoded bits and known training sequences

Methods and apparatus for acquiring and verifying a code used by a base station. Acquisition time is reduced and circuitry simplified by performing Phase I and Phase II acquisitions in series, but in parallel with Phase III acquisition and verification, which are done in series. Phase III code acquisition is done by despreading the input signal using each of the possible codes in a code group. An estimation of the frequency offset between the base station and the terminal's local reference is used to correct the phase of the despread signals, which are coherently and non-coherently integrated. The largest accumulated value corresponds to the code used by the base station. The code is verified by despreading the received signal, applying a frequency correction, and demodulating. The demodulated output is a series of symbols, and a count of these symbols verifies the acquired code.

Frequency offset correction circuit for WCDMA

A channel dispersion estimation algorithm(s) may be implemented within a channel length estimation module of a multi-branch equalizer processing module that disables a branch of the multi-branch equalizer processing module when the channel length or channel delay spread associated with received radio frequency (RF) bursts exceeds a predetermined threshold. The channel dispersion estimation algorithm identifies when the radio frequency (RF) bursts have a channel length or channel delay spread that can affect receiver performance. The channel length estimation module may disable interference cancellation by a branch of the multi-branch equalizer processing module in response to such a channel length or channel delay spread.
