Disclosed is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that includes, by weight, about 16% to about 21% chromium, about 4.5% to about 5.5% nickel, about 2% to about 5% manganese, about 1% to about 2% silicon, about 0.8% to about 1.2% tungsten, about 0.4% to about 0.8% molybdenum, about 0.4% to about 0.6% niobium, about 0.4% to about 0.5% carbon, and a balance of iron. The alloy is suitable for use in turbocharger turbine housing applications for temperature up to about 1020&#xb0; C.

Disclosed is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that includes or consists of, by weight, about 24% to about 26% chromium, about 11% to about 13% nickel, about 4.5% to about 5.5% manganese, about 1.3% to about 1.7% silicon, about 1.2% to about 1.6% niobium, about 0.40% to about 0.50% carbon, about 0.2% to about 0.4% nitrogen, and a balance of iron with inevitable/unavoidable impurities. The alloy is suitable for use in turbocharger turbine applications for temperatures up to about 1050&#xb0; C.

Multilayer sheet metal housing assemblies suitable for use in turbocharger systems and related fabrication methods are provided. One exemplary compressor housing includes a first volute structure including an impeller opening, an inlet structure including an inlet opening, a second volute structure joined to the first volute structure about its periphery and including an interior opening radially circumscribing at least a first portion of the inlet structure, and a core volute structure circumscribing at least a second portion of the inlet structure, wherein the core volute structure is joined to the second volute structure about the interior opening and joined to the inlet structure.
