Systems and methods for generating notifications are described. A method includes receiving user input of a user of a first plurality of users of a first service to transmit an invitation to a second plurality of users to become members of the first service, wherein the first plurality of users are associated with respective online accounts of the first plurality of online accounts, the second plurality of users are specified in the user input and are associated with respective online accounts of a second plurality of online accounts of a second service. The method also includes in response to the user input of the user of the first plurality of users of the first service to transmit the invitation to the second plurality of users to become a member of the first service, determining that a set of usage parameters of a subset of the second plurality of online accounts of the second service do not satisfy one or more activity criteria for becoming a member of the first service, preventing transmission of the invitation to become a member of the first service to a subset of users of the second plurality of users of the second service, wherein the subset of users of the second plurality of users of the second service corresponds to the subset of the second plurality of online accounts of the second service that do not satisfy the one or more activity criteria, and sending the invitation to become a member of the first service to remaining users in the second plurality of users. The method further includes in response to one or more users of the remaining users accepting the invitation to become members of the first service, providing a notification data to inform the user that the one or more users of the remaining users have become members of the first service, and in response to a selection of the notification data by the user, providing a user interface presenting customized operations to be performed by the user with respect to each of the one or more users of the remaining users that have become members of the first service.

Generating notifications based on formation of memberships

A method is provided that includes receiving a plurality of messaging signals for a user. The method further determines an elapsed time from the sending of a previous message to the user. The method also includes determining a priority order for the plurality of messaging signals, examining the plurality of messaging signals according to the priority order to identify a valid messaging signal, and sending a message to the user based on the valid messaging signal.

Re-engagement notifications

In one aspect, a method includes receiving an indication that a first user has interacted with a second user in a social network, calculating a social affinity score between the first user and the second user based on first user information, second user information, or relationship information between the first user and the second user and scheduling delivery of a notification to the recipient based on the social affinity score. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Ranking to determine relevance of social connections

Systems and methods for generating notifications are described. One of the methods includes identifying a selection to invite users to become members of a social network and generating prompt data to allow invitations to be sent to the users based on the selection. The method further includes determining whether indications of becoming members of the social network are received from one or more of the users. The method includes transmitting notification data to inform a member that the one or more users have become members of the social network in response to determining that the indications of becoming members are received.

The disclosed subject matter relates to systems, methods, and machine-readable media for ordering notifications for display in a social networking environment. One example system is configured to obtain a set of notifications for a user, wherein each notification in the set of notifications is generated in response to an event in a social network and, for each notification in the set of notifications, determine an event type associated with the notification and calculate a priority score for the notification based on the event type associated with the notification. The system is further configured to display the set of notifications based on the priority score for each notification in the set of notifications.

Methods and systems for intelligently cropping images, including receiving, over a computer network, a source image, and then associating a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image. A cropped image is generated from the source image wherein the cropping is based on the first object. The system and method then notifying a first user that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the cropped image, wherein the notification includes the cropped image.

Intelligent cropping of images based on multiple interacting variables

A system for synchronizing data across multiple browser tabs or windows includes a synchronization module and shared synchronization storage. The shared synchronization storage is local storage of the browser and is utilized by a plurality of browser windows, a plurality of tabs or a browser window and tab. The shared synchronization storage is used to store information about notifications and a timestamp as to when that information was retrieved from the notification server. The synchronization module is responsive to requests for updates from the notification client module. The synchronization module accesses the shared synchronization storage to determine whether notification information stored there is current and if so provides that notification information from the shared synchronization storage to the notification client module. If notification information stored locally is not current, the synchronization module cooperates with the notification server to retrieve current notification information.

Synchronizing data across multiple browser tabs or windows

A system for generating a user interface for notification includes a notification response server and an activity streams backend. The notification response server receives requests for notification information from client devices. The notification response server provides information including a number of notifications, a list of notifications, and detail about each notification. The notification response server and the client device cooperate to present a notifications menu that is part of a browser window header that is consistent regardless of the tab being displayed. The activity streams backend is coupled to the notification response server and a plurality of other servers with which the user may interact. These other servers generate messages for which the notification response server generates corresponding notifications. The present disclosure also includes a method for displaying a number, list or details about notifications and methods for responding to notifications within the user interface.

Various aspects of the subject technology relate to systems, methods, and machine-readable media for providing a user with notifications about events in a social network. A system may be configured to determine that a number of events for a user have occurred on a social network, wherein each event for the user is associated with an entity, calculate a score for each event based on a profile for the user and a profile for the entity associated with the event, and generate a notification for the user, wherein the notification comprises a plurality of information elements, wherein each information element is associated with one of the events in the number of events, and wherein the plurality of information elements in the notification are prioritized based on the score for each of the events.

Methods and systems that provide for cross-linking from composite images that include receiving, over a computer network, a source image and then associating a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image. A composite image is generated from the source image, wherein the composite image includes a cropped image of the first object. Then a first user is notified that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the cropped image and also includes a copy of the composite image. Additionally, the user can select the first object in the composite image and be linked to the source image that contains the selected first object where the first object is highlighted.

According to one method, when a user device is connected to a port of a network access device, the type of user device is determined. The type of user device is used to locate a corresponding port configuration policy. The port to which the device is connected is dynamically configured based on the port configuration policy.

Devices, systems and related methods are disclosed for improving operational security of a network and/or network devices, such as wireless access points (APs). In the disclosed systems, a network device is not fully operational until it is attached to a network and downloads sensitive information. The information is stored in the network device so that when the device is disconnected from the network, the sensitive information is erased from the device, making the device inoperative and removing sensitive information, such as passwords, network security keys, or the like. Disabling the network device in this manner not only prevents the theft of sensitive network access information, by also discourages theft of the device itself because it cannot be used on another network without the configuration information. In addition to downloading configuration information, the network device can also download an executable image that is likewise not permanently resident on the device.
