In one embodiment, a computer networking device calculates a first hash value for an identifier of a group of computing devices, as well as a second hash value for the identifier of the group of computing devices, with each hash value being at least in part on the identifier of the group of computing devices and an identifier of the respective interface. The computer networking device may also analyze the first hash value with respect to the second hash value and select the first interface for association with the identifier of the group of computing devices based at in part on the analyzing. The computer networking device may further store an indication that the identifier of the group of computing devices is associated with the first interface.

Selecting interfaces for device-group identifiers

One technique includes receiving, in a first network, a multi-destination packet from a second network, and determining, based on the multi-destination packet, a first multi-destination tree in the first network for forwarding the multi-destination packet. In response to determining that the first multi-destination tree is not rooted on the network device, a second multi-destination tree in the first network is determined, and the multi-destination packet is transmitted using the second multi-destination tree. Another technique includes, upon detecting a first network device joining a network, sending a first indication to a second network device that the first network device is in a state for an amount of time. After the amount of time has elapsed, a second indication that the first network device has exited the state is sent to the second network device. A topology of the network is updated after the first network device has exited the state.

Fast receive re-convergence of multi-pod multi-destination traffic in response to local disruptions

Heterogeneous capabilities in an overlay fabric may be provided. First, it may be determined that a first link and a second link support a feature. Then the first link and the second link may be traversed with traffic between a host in a first Endpoint Group (EPG) connected to a first leaf switch and a second host in a second EPG connected to a second leaf switch when a topology preference for the feature is indicated for the traffic.

Heterogeneous capabilities in an overlay fabric

In one embodiment, a method includes assigning an identifier to a route computation at a network device, grouping route updates for the route computation, marking at least one route update for each group of route updates with the identifier, tracking flow of marked route updates at a plurality of routing components within the network device, and storing tracking data at the network device for use in convergence monitoring. An apparatus and logic are also disclosed herein.
