A server receives a group message from a first user account in a social networking platform, the group message to be sent to a plurality of user accounts, and determines whether the group message refers to one or more user accounts of the plurality of user accounts. For a respective user account referred to by the group message, the server sends a notification to a terminal associated with the respective user account, wherein the notification is rendered at the terminal in a first manner configured by the respective user account. For a respective user account not referred to by the group message, the server sends a notification to a terminal associated with the respective user account, wherein the notification is rendered at the terminal in a second manner configured by the social networking platform, wherein the second manner is different from the first manner.

Method and system for providing notifications for group messages

A method includes: upon opening a target communication window, displaying a first subset of communication items target communication window, without concurrently displaying a second and a third subset of communication items in the target communication window, wherein: the first, second, and third subsets of communication items have been received after last closure of the target communication window, and the first subset is received after the second subset, and the second subset is received after the third subset; in response to receiving a second user request to display earlier received communication items and in accordance with a determination that the second user request meets predefined list rollback criteria: ceasing to display the first subset of communication items in the target communication window; and displaying the third subset of communication items in the target communication window, without first displaying the second subset of communication items in the target communication window.

Method and apparatus for managing the display of messages of a group chat

A method and system for providing notifications to users for group messages transmitted over a social networking platform are disclosed. A server with one or more processors and memory obtains a group message from a first user account in the social networking platform, where the group message is to be sent to a group of user accounts in the social networking platform. For a respective user account in the group of user accounts, the server: determines a status of a group message notification function of the social networking platform for the respective user account; in accordance with a determination that the group message notification function is disabled, determines whether the respective user account is referred to in the group message; and, in accordance with a determination that the user account is referred to in the group message, sends a notification to the respective user account regarding the group message.

A computing device performs a method of managing the display of messages on its screen. After receiving a first user request to open a target communication window on the screen, the computing device opens the target communication window and displays a first set of messages associated with the group chat in the target communication window, which was received by the computing device after last closure of the target communication window and includes a recently-received message. After receiving a second user request to access an earlier-received message after the last closure of the target communication window, the computing device replaces the display of the first set of messages with the display of a second set of messages in the target communication window, which was received by the computing device after the last closure of the target communication window and includes the earlier-received message.
