A wireless light switch harvests energy for ambient environment/space conditions and uses the harvested energy to energize low-power electronics. An exemplary application is for wireless control (ON/OFF or dimming) of light fixtures. The energy harvesting circuitry transduces ambient light to electricity and uses this energy to charge an energy storage device as well as power a wireless transmitter which can be triggered based on user interaction with an ON/OFF or Dim+/Dim&#x2212; element. The wireless light switch with energy harvesting circuitry is paired with a wireless receiver circuit which can be connected to a light fixture that is to be controlled by the wireless light switch.

A thermodynamic heat exchanger is an electronic device having one or more heat generating devices, a heat exchanging element, and one or more heat exhaust elements. The heat generating devices can be the active and passive electronics elements included within a power conversion circuit, such as a power adapter used to charge a cellular telephone or other type of consumer electronics device. The heat exchanging element is configured to accept radiated thermal energy from the heat generating devices and distribute the accepted thermal energy across an outer surface to evenly distribute hot spots corresponding to the individual heat generating devices. The heat exchanging element is also configured to minimize heat radiating from its outer surface, thereby blocking heat in the thickness of the thermally conductive material.

Thermodynamic heat exchanger

A switch has a first input to couple to an AC electrical power source, a second input to couple to a DC electrical power source, and an output to couple to an electrical power load. A control module transmits a signal to the electrical power load to determine whether the electrical power load uses AC electrical power or DC electrical power, and receives in response thereto an indication that the electrical power load uses one of AC electrical power and DC electrical power. The control module then transmits a signal to the switch to configure the switch to receive electrical power from one of the AC electrical power source and the DC electrical power source and transmit the received electrical power to the electrical power load, responsive to the received indication.

Method and apparatus for dynamic electrical load sensing and line to load switching

An electrical power distribution system includes a number of alternating current (AC) power output ports to transmit electrical power at a first fixed AC voltage level to a corresponding number of AC power loads. An AC bus coupled to the AC power output ports, and to couple to an AC power grid, transmits electrical power at a second fixed AC voltage level. A DC bus transmits electrical power at a first fixed DC voltage level. A number of AC power input/output (I/O) adapters are coupled to the AC bus and the DC bus, each including a bidirectional AC-to-DC (AC/DC) converter to receive and convert the electrical power transmitted on the AC bus at the second fixed AC voltage level to the electrical power at the first fixed DC voltage level for transmission to the DC bus, and to receive and convert the electrical power transmitted on the DC bus at the first fixed DC voltage level to the electrical power at the second fixed AC voltage level for transmission to the AC bus. The system further includes logic coupled to the AC power I/O adapters, the AC power output ports, and the AC bus, to control an amount of the electrical power transmitted from the AC power grid to the DC bus and from the DC bus to the AC bus for transmission to the AC power grid and/or one or more of the AC power output ports.

Various embodiments relate to power distribution systems. A power distribution system may include a switching unit configured to receive power from a plurality of sources, each source of the plurality of sources configured to supply power at a phase offset from a phase of every other source. The power distribution system may also include a plurality of loads. Furthermore, the power distribution system may include at least one monitoring unit configured to selectively couple, via the switching unit, each load of the plurality of loads to a source of the plurality of sources based on at least one of a current power demand of the plurality of loads and a predicted demand of the plurality of loads.

Dynamic load balancing

According to an aspect of an embodiment, a method may include supplying electrical power to a plurality of sub-loads. The method may include obtaining a power demand of each sub-load of a plurality of sub-loads. The method may include obtaining an amount of available secondary power of a secondary power source. The method may further include connecting, the secondary power source instead of a primary power source to a subset of sub-loads based on an aggregate power demand of the subset of sub-loads being less than the amount of available secondary power. The method may further include connecting the primary power source instead of the secondary power source to a particular sub-load based on a sum of a particular demand of the particular sub-load and the aggregate power demand exceeding the amount of available secondary power.

Supplying electrical power to multiple loads from more than one power source

A system and method may include receiving, at a first node of a circuit electrically coupled to a light emitting diode, a pulsed electrical signal that includes signal current pulses. The system and method may also include enabling discharging of a capacitor electrically coupled to the first node at an enable time that is during a particular time period between two particular signal current pulses of the pulsed electrical signal.

A system and method may include receiving, at a first node of a circuit electrically coupled to a light emitting diode, a pulsed electrical signal that includes signal current pulses. The system and method may also include enabling discontinuous discharging of a capacitor electrically coupled to the first node during a particular time period between two particular signal current pulses of the pulsed electrical signal.

An electrical power input adapter coupled to a direct current (DC) bus in a power distribution system receives either an alternating current (AC) power signal or a DC power signal at a first voltage level to transmit to the DC bus. An electrical converter receives and converts the received signal to a DC power signal at a second fixed voltage. A second interface includes a current limiter to receive and limit an amperage of the DC power signal at the second voltage. A programmable switch coupled to the current limiter receives the DC power signal at the second voltage and at the limited amperage and transmits the DC power signal at the second voltage and at the limited amperage. A controller coupled to the programmable switch controls when, within a period of time, the programmable switch is to transmit the DC power signal at the second voltage and at the limited amperage. An integrator receives the DC power signal at the second voltage and at the limited amperage when transmitted within the period of time and converts it to a DC power signal at the second voltage and at a second amperage that is proportional to the limited amperage integrated over the period of time.

Method and apparatus for current control in input power adapters for a DC bus-based power router

An electrical power distribution system includes an electrical power router with input ports and output ports and distributes an electrical signal received on one of the input ports to one of output ports. An electrical input adapter coupled to one of the input ports and further to couple to an electrical power source receives and convert an electrical signal input from the electrical power source to the electrical signal distributed by the power router. An electrical output adapter coupled to one of the output ports and further to couple to an electrical power load receives and converts the electrical signal distributed by the power router from the one of the output ports to an electrical signal output to the electrical power load. A controller coupled to the electrical input adapter, the electrical output adapter, and the electrical power router, controls transmission of the electrical signal from the electrical input adapter to the electrical output adapter through the electrical power router.

Electrical power distribution system and method

A cascade power system includes a non-isolated buck converter in cascade with an isolated Class-E resonant circuit, where the Class-E resonant circuit operates at high frequency, for example 4 Mhz. Further, the non-isolated buck converter is configured as a current source coupled to the Class-E resonant circuit which provides a buck converter output voltage as input to the Class-E resonant circuit. The Class-E resonant circuit includes capacitive isolation for the cascade power system output.

A cascade power system includes a non-isolated buck converter in cascade with an isolated Class-E resonant circuit, where the Class-E resonant circuit operates at high frequency, for example 4 Mhz. Further, the non-isolated buck converter is configured as a current source coupled to the Class-E resonant circuit which provides a buck converter output voltage as input to the Class-E resonant circuit. The Class-E resonant circuit includes capacitive isolation for the cascade power system output. The Class-E resonant circuit and the capacitive isolation are configured such that impedance matching for the resonant tank of the Class-E resonant circuit is independent of an output load condition.

A power converter includes a self-driven circuit for appropriately turning ON and OFF a synchronous rectifier during the operating cycle of the power converter. Without the use of a smart controller coupled to the synchronous rectifier, the self-driven circuit turns ON the synchronous rectifier during the positive cycle of the power converter when the main switch is turned OFF, and the self-driven circuit turns OFF the synchronous rectifier during the negative cycle of the power converter when the main switch is turned ON. Unlike conventional self-driven circuits that include an auxiliary secondary winding for driving a synchronous rectifier, the self-driving circuitry of the present application does not include an auxiliary secondary winding.
