A device for rapid concentration and detection of live cells in fluids includes a filter to capture a cell sample. The filter includes a first physical barrier with apertures of a first size and a second physical barrier with apertures of a second size smaller than the first size to isolate the cell sample on the filter. Growth detection circuitry associated with the filter electrically measures a cell growth rate associated with the cell sample in less than 2 days. The growth detection circuitry includes a mechanical filter for concentration of cells. The filter and growth detection circuitry are integrally formed within the device, which is sealed.

Apparatus and method for detecting live cells with an integrated filter and growth detection device

A network switch includes network switch ports, each including a port filter configured for detecting user-selected attributes from a received layer 2 type data frame. Each port filter, upon detecting a user-selected attribute in a received layer 2 type data frame, sends a signal to a switching module indicating the determined presence of the user-selected attribute, enabling the switching module to generate a switching decision based on the corresponding user-selected attribute and based on a corresponding user-defined switching policy. The switching policy may specify a priority class, or a guaranteed quality of service (e.g., a guaranteed bandwidth), ensuring that the received layer 2 type data frame receives the appropriate switching support. The user-selected attributes for the port filter and the user-defined switching policy for the switching module are programmed by a host processor. Hence, the integrated network switch is able to perform advanced switching operations for layer 2 type data packets to ensure quality of service requirements, independent of priority information specified in the layer 2 type data packets, based on the user-selected attributes in the layer 2 type data packets and the user-defined switching policies established for the switching module.

Arrangement in a network switch for prioritizing data frames based on user-defined frame attributes

A device for processing fluids includes a filter to capture a cell sample. The filter has a physical barrier to isolate the cell sample on the filter. Growth detection circuitry is associated with the filter. The growth detection circuitry identifies, through electrical measurements, a cell growth rate and hence the presence of live cells associated with the cell sample.

A channel adapter includes a work queue entry table having entries configured for storing work queue entries awaiting respective acknowledgements. Each entry includes a work queue entry field for storing a corresponding work queue entry, and first and second link fields for respective linked lists. The channel adapter also includes a table manager configured for creating the linked lists, based on prescribed network conditions, for example for storage of a first list specifying a transmission order of the work queue entry fields and a second list specifying an acknowledgement order. Hence, the multiple link fields enable the work queue entry table to be shared for respective linked lists specifying respective attributes relative to the stored work queue entries.

A network device identifies priority level information for data frames it receives. The network device includes input ports, a memory, an action generator, and a port vector queue. The input ports receive the data frames. Each of the received data frames specifies one or more classes of service. The memory stores priority level information corresponding to each of the classes of service. The action generator generates an action tag for each of the received data frames. The port vector queue uses the action tag from the action generator for each of the received data frames to access the memory to identify the priority level information associated with the received data frame.

Systems and methods for expediting the identification of priority information for received packets

A host channel adapter is configured for servicing received work notifications based on identifying the work notifications associated with the virtual lanes (VL) having a prescribed ordering position identified by the link layer operations. The host channel adapter, in response to receiving a work notification for a prescribed service level (SL), determines the virtual lane associated with the specified service level based on a prescribed service level to virtual lane mapping. If necessary (e.g., for an unreliable datagram service type), the work notification supplies the prescribed service level (SL) for the host channel adapter. The host channel adapter also determines an ordering position for the determined virtual lane from the link layer module, and selectively services the work notification based on the corresponding ordering position.

A network device that controls the communication of data frames between stations includes ports that receive data frames from the stations and transmit the data frames. A number of the ports may be configured as a trunk and at least one of the ports in the trunk may be configured to transmit data frames at a higher speed than the other ports. The network device further includes data frame processing logic that identifies ports on which to transmit the received data frames. The data frame processing logic also determines whether the identified port is part of the trunk. When the port is part of the trunk, the data frame processing logic determines an appropriate port on which to transmit the data frame. The data frame processing logic may determine the appropriate port based on the priority associated with the received data frame so that higher priority data frames are transmitted on higher speed ports.

Method and apparatus for trunking links having different transmission rates

A network switch that controls the communication of data frames between stations includes receive devices that correspond to ports on the network switch. The receive devices receive and store data frame information from the network stations. The network switch also includes an external memory interface that receives the data frame information from the receive devices and transfers the data frame information to multiple external memory devices.

Method and apparatus for accessing external memories

A host channel adapter configured for outputting packets, according to a service protocol requiring acknowledgement messages within a prescribed time interval following transmission, utilizes a retransmission table for storing entries identifying the packets awaiting respective acknowledgment messages during the respective prescribed time intervals. A retransmission manager is configured for updating the retransmission table after each access cycle, defined as a prescribed number of clock cycles. The retransmission manager also identifies a number of transmitted packets within the corresponding access cycle within a selected initial entry for the access cycle. An acknowledgment manager in the receive portion of the host channel adapter resets to zero an acknowledgment waiting bit in a selected entry in response to an acknowledgment message identifying the corresponding packet. If the retransmission manager determines after a prescribed retransmission time that the selected initial entry for the access cycle does not reset an acknowledgment waiting bit, the entries identifying the transmitted packets within the corresponding access cycle are transferred to a transmit queue for retransmission.

Arrangement for managing transmitted packets requiring acknowledgement in a host channel adapter

A network device determines forwarding information for received data frames. The network device includes input ports, queuing logic, a forwarding engine, and a port filter. The input ports receive data frames. The queuing logic transfers at least some of the received data frames to an external memory. The forwarding engine generates forwarding information for at least some of the data frames transferred by the queuing logic to the external memory. The port filter stores forwarding information for one or more of the received data frames and analyzes each of the received data frames to determine whether there is stored forwarding information related to the received data frame. When there is stored forwarding information related to the received data frame, the port filter uses the stored forwarding information to forward the received data frame.

Systems and methods for bypassing packet lookups

An ATM&#x2014;InfiniBand&#x2122; router is configured for interfacing between an asynchronous transmission mode (ATM) network and an InfiniBand&#x2122; network, without a necessity of intermediate transport on a packet based network such as an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The router includes an ATM processor and a host channel adapter. The ATM processor is configured for generating ATM cells streams based on received InfiniBand&#x2122; packets, and recovering InfiniBand&#x2122; packet data from received ATM cells. The host channel adapter is configured for receiving the InfiniBand&#x2122; packets from the InfiniBand network and providing at least the payload data to the ATM processor, and outputting the recovered InfiniBand&#x2122; packet data onto the InfiniBand&#x2122; network. In addition, the ATM processor and the host channel adapter may be configured for mapping the ATM cells and the InfiniBand packets on prescribed virtual circuits and prescribed InfiniBand&#x2122; connections, respectively. Hence, the ATM&#x2014;InfiniBand&#x2122; router operates as a call connection handler, enabling connections to be established across ATM and InfiniBand&#x2122; networks.

A network device includes a port filter, a first logic device, and a second logic device. The port filter receives a data frame and generates first data relating to the data frame. The first logic device generates second data for the received data frame. The second logic device receives the first data and the second data, determines whether the first data contains a valid first priority value, and assigns the valid first priority value to the data frame when the first data contains the valid first priority value. When the first data does not contain a valid first priority value, the second logic device determines whether the second data contains a valid second priority value, and assigns the valid second priority value to the data frame when the second data contains the valid second priority value.

System and method for deciding outgoing priority for data frames

A network device that controls the communication of data frames between stations receives data frames from a number of stations. The network device detects a congestion condition associated with processing the received data frames and generates a pause frame including source address information relating to the source of the congestion. The network device transmits the pause frame to a second network device. The second network device identifies the source address included in the pause frame and suspends transmission of data frames with that source address to the network device. The second network device may also transmit the pause frame including the source address to a third network device.
