Well stimulating fluids and methods may use a first and a second chelating agent, e.g., diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA), glutamic diacetic acid (GLDA), and/or hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine triacetic acid (HEDTA), particularly in amounts of from 1 to 10 wt. %, to control iron precipitation during the stimulation process. Such fluids can stabilize iron ions without precipitation to manage the efficiency and performance of the stimulation fluid. Such stimulation fluids can be used with for highly concentrated HCl solutions, e.g., more than 20 up to 28 wt. % or more, that are useful in emulsified acid formulations in acid fracturing or acidizing of carbonate formations.

Iron control composition, make, and use in carbonate stimulation

A method is described for removing a barite-quartz and a calcite-quartz filter cake from a well bore. The method involves contacting the filter cake with a first composition comprising NHF, NaBrO, NHCl, and NaNO. The NHCl and NaNOreact exothermically, and the heat produced drives the endothermic reaction of NHF and NaBrO, which produces HF for dissolution of the quartz in the filter cake. Filter cake comprising barite may be further treated with a second composition comprising a converting agent and a chelating agent. Filter cake comprising calcite may be treated with a first composition having an excess of NHCl and NaBrO, which react to produce HCl for calcite dissolution.

Barite-quartz and calcite-quartz filter cake removal method

A barite filter cake removing composition, and single- and multi-stage methods of removing a barite filter cake from a wellbore. The composition comprises at least one polymer removal agent, at least one chelating agent, and at least one converting agent. The single-stage method includes contacting the barite filter cake with the composition to dissolve the barite filter cake from the wellbore. The multi-stage method includes contacting the barite filter cake from the wellbore with at least one polymer removal agent to remove a polymer coat present on the barite filter cake, contacting the barite filter cake with at least one converting agent to convert barium sulfate in the barite filter cake to a barium salt of carbonate, formate, cyanide, nitrate, and/or chloride, and removing the barium salt of carbonate, formate, cyanide, nitrate, and/or chloride with at least one chelating agent.

Method for improving production of a well bore

A method of removing an iron sulfide scale from a surface in fluid communication with a wellbore and/or subterranean formation comprising contacting the iron sulfide scale on the surface with a composition to dissolve the iron sulfide scale in the composition. The composition comprises (a) at least one chelating agent selected from the group consisting of DTPA, EDTA HEDTA, GLDA, CDTA, and MGDA, and salts thereof, and (b) at least one converting agent selected from the group consisting of potassium carbonate (KCO), potassium formate (HCOOK), potassium hydroxide (KOH), potassium chloride (KCl), cesium formate (HCOOCs), and cesium chloride (CsCl). In the composition, the weight ratio of (a):(b) lies in the range 7-60:2-20.

Foamed acid may be used in low abnormal pressure carbonate reservoirs. The drilling fluid system permits drilling a target hydrocarbon-producing formation with zero-invasion of the drilling fluid system.
