A method for preserving a digitally signed document () in a digital data preservation system (). A secure preservation request () combines the document () with a preservation signature () that is generated using an identification mark () and the document's associated digital signature (). Once the document () is authenticated by the digital preservation system vendor, both the document () and the identification mark () are recorded onto preservation media () in human-readable form.

A viewing device and method are provided for use with an image transparency having an associated tracking memory. The viewing device has a display adapted to present at least two illumination patterns, a reader device for obtaining data stored in a tracking memory of an image transparency positioned proximate to the display surface, and a control processing unit. The control processing unit is adapted to receive the obtained data and to generate more than one illumination pattern with a first of the illumination patterns formed for passing through the transparency and second of the illumination patterns formed for viewing on the display without passing through the transparency, wherein the appearance of at least one of the illumination patterns is determined based upon the data obtained from the tracking memory.

Viewing device

A method for decoding data that has been encoded in a monochrome medium utilizing the capability of the medium for grayscale resolution. A document is processed to provide an image in electronic format, in which each pixel has an assigned data value with a given bit depth. A mapping operation is performed for generating a monochrome data word (), preferably having a reduced bit depth. The monochrome data word () can be used to encode multiple data fields (). A printer () then produces a preserved document record () in which the appropriate monochrome data word () determines the grayscale value for each pixel. To decode the stored data, a scanner () is employed to obtain the grayscale value from the preserved document record (). For each pixel, the grayscale value is then decomposed into multiple data fields (), which can then be decoded to provide the information that was originally encoded.

Method of decoding data encoded in a monochrome medium

In one aspect of the invention a data collection device is provided for use with a medium said medium being usable when exposed to electromagnetic radiation that is characteristic of such use. The data collection device has a sensor capable of sensing when the medium is exposed to electromagnetic radiation that is characteristic of such a use and generating an exposure signal in response thereto. A controller is connected to said sensor and stores data in a memory when an exposure signal is detected.

A viewing device is provided for viewing at least one image transparency having an associated tracking memory. The viewing device comprises an illumination device having at least one viewing surface adapted to present at least one illumination pattern, at least one radio frequency read write device for obtaining electronic data stored in an associated tracking memory of an image transparency positioned proximate to the viewing surface and at least one display device for viewing at least one electronic image related to said at least one image transparency. A control processing unit is adapted to receive said obtained data from said associated tracking memory and to use the obtained data for forming the at least one electronic image.

Illumination apparatus

An apparatus and method for printing images from a digital image source onto a photosensitive medium () using one or more two-dimensional light-emissive arrays () such as OLED arrays. Each image pixel has a corresponding light-emitting element which is assigned a variable intensity based on data for that pixel. Imaging optics () direct the light from each light-emitting element onto the photosensitive medium () so that a monochromatic or multicolor image can be formed with a single exposure.

A method and apparatus for printing multiple simultaneous images onto a photosensitive media comprises the steps of imaging light from a light source through an optics assembly ( ) to a polarization beamsplitter ( ). The polarization beamsplitter ( ) produces light having a first polarized state and light having a second polarized state. The first polarized light is directed to a first spatial light modulator ( ). The first spatial light modulator is addressed with a first signal to create a first modulated light beam, which is imaged through a print lens assembly onto the photosensitive media. A second polarized light is directed to a second spatial light modulator ( ). The second spatial light modulator is addressed with a second signal to create a second modulated light beam, which is imaged through the print lens onto the photosensitive media. The first modulated light beam and the second modulated light beam create at least two simultaneous images on the photosensitive media.

Method and apparatus for printing multiple simultaneous images onto a photosensitive media

A printhead having a plurality of exposure elements ( ) with improved non-uniformity correction. Spatial variance of the energy emitted by the exposure elements ( ) is measured and used to establish spot size characteristics for each exposure element. A sensor ( ) scans multiple points along the pixel area written by each exposure element ( ) and measures a corresponding output power value at each point. Method and apparatus for printing images in multiple formats using a spatial light modulator

An improvement for non-uniformity correction in a printing apparatus ( ) wherein an image forming assembly ( ) forms an image using a plurality of exposure elements, and the amount of exposure energy at each individual exposure element is capable of being varied. A test print ( ) is generated, having a series of test patches or zones with predetermined density levels. A scanner ( ) scans the test print ( ) to obtain density value readings within each test density zone ( ) for each pixel that corresponds to each exposure element. Density value readings are averaged. Then, difference in measurement from this average is used to compute a correction factor for each individual exposure element.
